Evalyn Mae Polk was born on February 8, 1931, in Hazel Park, Michigan, to Louis and Elizabeth Polk. She passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, in Strongsville, Ohio.
Evalyn was a devoted wife, loving and much-loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Technical Sergeant Robert W. Gregg Sr., and her second husband of 7 years, George Kline Sr., her eldest son, Robert W. Gregg Jr., her parents Louis and Elizabeth Polk, and her brother Lewis Polk Jr.
Evalyn graduated from Chartiers Township High School near Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, eventually moving with her family to Newark, Delaware in 1953 to work at the local Chrysler Plant. There, Ev (as she was affectionately known) met Bob Gregg and began a love affair for the ages.
For 37 years Ev shared her life, adventures, and days with Bob Gregg, the love of her life. As an Air Force wife, she traveled the world, creating a warm and loving home for her family at each duty station. During their years in the Air Force, she was actively engaged in the Air Force Wives Club. Ev and Bob frequently hosted gatherings in their home for Airmen during holidays wherever they were stationed. Dancing the night away with friends at NCO Clubs was a favorite activity. Never one to stay idle, Ev also enjoyed numerous hobbies, including sewing and hat-making.
When Evalyn entered the workforce, she spent several years at LeRoys Style Shop in Newark. She moved on to a rewarding career in education as an administrative professional, first at Glasgow High School, and then in the HR and Transportation Departments at NCCVTSD from where she retired. After her retirement from education, Evalyn provided office support for New Castle Family Medicine and Delaware Sportscare, Pro PT, and ATI therapy clinics.
Throughout her career, Evalyn was an active member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, and the Delaware Association of Education Office Professionals, where she served in leadership roles.
As a widow, Ev met and married George Kline in 1989. Her years with George were filled with lots of travel and cultural experiences until he passed in 1996.
In her retirement, Evalyn stayed active and busy. She became a consultant for Creative Memories scrapbooking, hosting many workshops in her home and at the beach where other scrapbookers gathered to create beautiful memory books. Ev was also a lifetime voracious reader.
Evalyn was the family matriarch; she was devoted to and dearly loved her family. She delighted in hosting yearly holiday celebrations, parties, sleepovers for the grandchildren, and many, many family dinners. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a homeroom mother, and spent many a Saturday in the concession stand and bleachers at little league fields. Ev also loved to travel with her family and always had her bags packed when an opportunity to see the world arose.
The entire family is extremely thankful for, and grateful to, Zahna Harris-Imani, who provided gentle, devoted care to Ev during her last three years. We are also very appreciative of the care team at Vitalia Strongsville, Ohio.
Evalyn is survived by her children Mark Gregg (Rita), Richard Gregg (Tom Ducham), Kathy Callaway (Michael), and daughter-in-law Carol Gregg; her sister Judy Barker (Michael); nine grandchildren: Erin Gregg (John), Eric Gregg (Jennifer), John Gregg, Elaina Gregg (Curry), Scott Gregg (Em), Morgan Axe (Jeremie), Devon Campbell (David), Robert Callaway, and Kasey Carns (Cole); seventeen great grandchildren: Andrea, Brayden, Mckinnley, Evalyn, Simon, Rosalyn, Percival, Persephone, Cillian, Freya, Charlie, Parker, Finley, Eden, Jack, Winnie, and Campbell; her Godchildren: Sherry Gerhart (Dennis), and Kevin Polk (Leslie) and other nieces.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, October 24 from 9:00 - 11:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church, 200 E.
