Evan Bechtel Obituary

Evan Ray Bechtel, aged 80, passed away on August 23, 2025, in San Marcos, Texas. Born on April 27, 1945, Evan was known for his wit, intelligence, and readiness to share a joke. A devout Christian, he was a loyal member of Westover Baptist Church in San Marcos.

Evan proudly served in the US Navy for two years, bringing dedication and a strong work ethic to his duties. Following his military service, he embarked on a rewarding career with Southwestern Bell Communications/AT&T, from which he retired after many years of committed service.

Beyond his professional life, Evan was a man of many skills and hobbies. He was an adept mechanic, a skilled builder who constructed many fine homes for his family, and an artist who created beautiful metal art for his property. His retirement home in LaCygne, Kansas, showcased his landscaping talents and created a welcoming and beautiful environment which he and Doris deeply loved for many years before making the move to San Marcos.

Evan is survived by his wife, Doris Bechtel; his brother, John Bechtel; his sister, Marlene Hamblin; his son, Chris Bechtel; his daughter, Lee Smith; and his grandson, Ethan Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Opal Bechtel, and his son, Roger Bechtel.

A service to celebrate Evan's life will be held at Westover Baptist Church in San Marcos, TX, on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at 11:00 am. Evan will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and the profound impact he had on those around him.
