Evangeline Mary Lopez

Evangeline Mary Lopez, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully among family at home on December 28, 2025. Preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, Bonifacio Lopez, she lived a life defined by devotion to family, quiet generosity, and a love of music.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Belinda Spangle and Yvonne Garcia, and by her devoted son in law, Samuel Garcia. Her grandchildren-Kenneth, Wayne, Dustin, Kaytlyn, Ivory, and Sebastian, each of whom will come to remember her in their own special way as they continue to grow and make their way through this world. Lastly, she leaves behind two faithful pets: dog Sammy, and cat Homer, whom she lovingly called "mijito" and who was her very best friend until the end.

A homemaker for most of her adult life, she had a passion for cooking, sewing, and gardening, and proved to be limitlessly talented in these areas. She spoke fondly of her time working at the Santa Fe Library and also in cosmetics and clothing sales. She possessed a unique eye for beauty and color and always exhibited unparalleled taste. She loved musicals with a devotion that made ordinary moments feel like a stage; more than once, she was caught humming or singing a showtune, as if the soundtrack of her heart could not help but spill into the room. A philanthropist at heart, generosity was her unspoken passion-she gave to many charities up until the end, believing in the small, steady power of helping others.

In the difficult months before her passing, countless friends and caregivers offered steady comfort and care for which the family is deeply grateful. A special, heartfelt thank you goes to her "ladies in waiting"-Julia, Angel, Salina, Justine, Victoria, "Lulu," Ivory, and Amethyst, whose presence filled her days and made her world larger and kinder than she had imagined.

Thank you also to her hospice team, specifically Laurie, Christy, and Erica. If there are angels here on earth, you ladies must be some of them. We are deeply appreciative of the heart, soul, and dedication to your work. Thank you.

A mantra in her last months was "either get busy living or get busy dying," and she wanted to live even as her body failed her. Let it be our reminder to embrace each day fully, be grateful for our health, deeply cherish our loved ones, and live with intention.

Thank you, Mom, for the lessons, the shoulder to cry on, and the unwavering support when it mattered most. We love you, and we will miss you.
