Bob Borbely Obituary

Robert (Bob) Borbely, age 76, passed away February 9th, 2026. A devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, decorated veteran, and steadfast mentor, he lived boldly, loved fiercely, and left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Above all else, he was a family man. A devoted husband, he built a life grounded in loyalty, strength, and unwavering love. As a father, he led by example-teaching resilience, integrity, and the importance of standing up for what is right. As a grandfather, he found some of his greatest joy in sharing laughter, adventure, and a little mischief with his grandchildren. Whether he was tearing through trails four-wheeling, lining up for a drag race, or playing paintball with the grandkids-never going easy on them-he was in his element. He believed life was meant to be lived at full throttle.

An adrenaline enthusiast to his core, he had a lifelong passion for fast cars, roaring engines, and anything that got the heart racing. Drag strips and dirt trails were some of his favorite places, and he carried that same fearless energy into every corner of his life.

He also had an incredible ability to balance intense fun with finding moments of peace, often enjoying lake time with friends and family.

Before these passions, however, came his service to his country. A proud Army Ranger marksman who served in Vietnam, he demonstrated extraordinary courage under fire. He was wounded in combat and awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his bravery and sacrifice. His service reflected the toughness and grit that defined him, but also the deep sense of duty that guided his life.

After returning home, he became a well-known and respected motorcycle mechanic. For years, he worked with skilled hands and a sharp mind, earning a reputation for excellence, honesty, and an unmatched understanding of engines.

Later in life, he answered another calling: helping young people find a better path. Changing careers, he became a juvenile probation officer and dedicated himself to guiding troubled youth. Known for being tough but fair, he held kids accountable while showing them the care and belief many had never experienced. He saw potential where others saw problems and worked tirelessly to make a difference. His strength was balanced by compassion, and many lives are better because he chose to invest in them.

He was known as a man of action, principle, and heart. Tough on the outside, deeply caring on the inside, he protected those he loved and stood firmly by his values. His laughter was loud, his advice direct, and his love unconditional.

He leaves behind a legacy of courage, loyalty, adventure, and service. Though engines may quiet and racetracks may fall silent, the impact of his life will continue to echo in the hearts of his family, friends, fellow veterans, and the many young people whose lives he helped change.

He will be deeply missed, forever honored, and always remembered.

Bob is survived by his wife, Deborah; his daughter, Elizabeth, and son-in-law, Alex; his daughter, Julie, and her partner, David; his 7 grandchildren, Dominic, Joshua, Tariq, Xavier, Saheim, Sebastian, and Leia; his brother, Tom; and his niece, Courtney, and nephew, Bo, and their families.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 2:00 pm at French Funerals and Cremations - Westside Chapel.
