Carol Borbely Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals & Cremation Service on Sep. 9, 2025.
Carol A. Borbely, 77, known affectionately as Mom and Mummum, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on September 4, 2025. Born in Bradford, Pennsylvania, in 1948, Carol followed her lifelong calling to care for others. She graduated from St. Peter's General Hospital School of Nursing in 1969 and began a remarkable career as a Registered Nurse. She served as an Operating Room Nurse at both St. Peter's University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, where she became a respected leader among her peers. Later, she brought her skill, compassion, and organizational talents to Plastic Surgery Specialists of New Jersey, where she worked as Nurse Administrator. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Carol's proudest role was that of wife, mother, and Mummum. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim, in 1969, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure until his passing in 2021. Their love story was one for the ages. Carol and Jim raised two children, Dawn and James, and welcomed four grandchildren - Lena, Jesse, Samantha, and Julia - who adored her. She was also overjoyed to know she would soon become a great - grandmother, with a new little one expected in December 2025. The name Mummum was Carol's own invention. She insisted she would never be called 'Grandma', explaining that 'grandmas sit around and do nothing - and that wasn't her.' True to form, she filled her days with family adventures, reading books with her grandchildren, cooking meals to bring everyone together, caring for pets, and rescuing wildlife. She loved the beach, visiting family in Florida and New Jersey, and sharing her sharp wit and wise advice whenever her kids or grandkids needed guidance. Her senior nursing school quote was: 'Love is a woman's whole existence.' Carol lived those words fully, pouring love into her patients, her family, and all who knew her - right up until the day she passed. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her devotion, wisdom, and love. She leaves behind and is profoundly missed by her loving children, Dawn and James, daughter in law Heidi, son in law Bernardo, cherished grandchildren Lena, Jesse, Samantha and Julia, and sister - in - laws Sue and Kathy. A private service held under the direction of Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Services, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey.
