Evangeline Inez "Cookie" McCarthy

Evangeline Inez 'Cookie" McCarthy, 94, of Freeport, passed away, Tuesday February 28, 2023, at FHN Memorial Hospital. Cookie was born February 23, 1929, in Freeport the daughter of Harold and Violet (Williams) Vore. Cookie married William F. McCarthy April 19, 1952, in Freeport. Mr. McCarthy passed away June 5, 1995. She worked as a life insurance agent and accountant before working at Lou Bachrodt as the Assistant Comptroller for 30 years. She was a member of St, Mary's Catholic Church, and Quota Club of Freeport. Cookie enjoyed animals, feeding birds, and tending to her tulip garden. She was a basketball fan, in particular of Michael Jordan.
Surviving is four children, Mary (Dan) Barr of Mt. Carroll, John (Sue) McCarthy of Winslow, Wayne McCarthy, and Patty (Jon) Morton of Freeport; five grandchildren, Mindy (Bill) Schatz, Lucas Morton, Jeremiah (Katie) McCarthy, Joshua McCarthy, Sarah McCarthy; six great grandchildren, Zoe Schatz, Jonny Schatz, Hannah Schatz, Taylor Schatz, Lydia McCarthy, and Violet McCarthy; and siblings, Dorothy Klever of Davis, Harold "Sonny" Vore Jr. of Freeport, and Marcia (Joe) May of Weeki Wachee, Florida.
Evangeline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings and spouses, Alberta (Keith) Tague, Phyllis (Rusty) Davis and sister, Jeanne Rosemeier; and brother-in-law, Larry Klever.
Cookie's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her beloved caregivers, Rae Lynn Randecker and Jenny Ils.
Private Family services will be held. Fr. Timothy Barr will officiate. A memorial has been established for Freeport Humane Society in Cookie's memory. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
