Gerald Adair Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schwarz Funeral Home - Galena Ave. on Feb. 2, 2026.
Gerald Lee Adair (Jerry), 85, left this world peacefully on February 1, 2026. Jerry was born on September 1, 1940, in Monmouth, Illinois

He was the Son of Charles & Darlene Adair. His father was fighting in the War at the time and was unfortunately killed in action when Jerry was just a 41/2-year-old boy. He lived with his mother and Grandparents in Galesburg, Illinois. He was raised alongside his mother by his Grandparents: "Daddy Verne" and Mildred Lonis.

Jerry's Mother re-married Edward Kozlowski. Jerry, his Mother Darlene and Stepdad Ed moved to Elmhurst where he grew up. He graduated from York High School where he developed a strong work ethic. He excelled in Baseball, which he loved, as well as academics. After High School Jerry married and went into Management of Sales at JCPenney. In 1969 Jerry decided to go into business for himself by opening a Shoe Store called "The Bootery" in McHenry Illinois.

Jerry was a loving Husband to Patricia Catherine Grimes. They were married on February 14, 1983, and had been married for 42 wonderful years. Jerry was a devoted husband, father and was a pillar of strength for his family.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife Patricia Catherine Grimes Adair: 4 children: Linda Redman (Randy), Dave Adair (Holly), Scott Adair, and Jennifer Adair. 2 Stepchildren: Laura Rapach, and Tom Rapach (Lorraine). 17 Grandchildren: 22 Great-Children and very close and wonderful group of neighborhood friends.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather & friend who was always there to offer guidance, love, support and understanding as well as a hearty laugh. Jerry cherished family gatherings, and friend gatherings in the "Casita" with a glass of wine in hand. His presence at holidays and celebrations brought so much warmth and joy to those around him.

Jerry had many passions in his life. His biggest passion was his wife Trish with whom he was devoted to and loved with all his heart and soul. Jerry also had many hobbies and interests in his life such as his Fountain Pens, Trains, Watches, Shooting Skeet and was an avid reader of anything he could get his hands on. Jerry was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his larger-than-life personality and his vast knowledge of pretty much anything you could think of.

Jerry just loved life. He loved his wife, his kids, his grandkids, his great-grandkids and all of his wonderful group of friends. He left an indelible mark on everyone he came across. As Jerry would always say "I'm just here to make you smarter". His light will never go out because it lives on with his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 21, 2026, at 5:30pm at Jerry's favorite restaurant. Cannova's 1101 W. Empire St. Freeport, Illinois 61032
