Meredith Langan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Plymouth on Feb. 25, 2026.
Meredith (More) Langan, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away February 23, 2026 in Plymouth, WI at the age of 88. She was born on June 17, 1937 to Raymond and Mildred (Weddle) More in Chicago, Il. She spent her childhood in Illinois and Ohio but considered her true hometowns to be Barre, MA and Kokomo, IN, where she spent summers with her grandparents.

She attended York HS and in 1959 received her teaching degree from Northern Illinois University. She began her teaching career in Villa Park, IL where she met and married her husband, Jim. After a whirlwind courtship, their love story lasted 42 years. They had three children that Meredith doted on. The family moved around Central Illinois for Jim's career before ending up in Minonk in "the big house on the corner." She returned to the classroom in 1983 where she taught 5th grade at Kimes Elementary School in Streator, where she remained until retirement. After Jim's death, Meredith moved to Random Lake, WI.

Merri was a giver, spending her life helping others. A woman of strong faith, she was a quintessential volunteer for her church and community. Family, friends and students enjoyed her willingness to help without judgement or expectations. "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another as God also forgave you." Ephesians 4:2. Over the years, her many activities and volunteerism included, the YMCA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts 4-H, church Women's organizations, Home Extension, Red Hatters, Jr. Women's Club, PEO, Random Lake Garden Club and Historical Society.

She never met a stranger, always ready and willing to strike up a conversation and learn about others, offering a friendly piece of advice or an understanding ear. Merri was very creative and loved to sew, cultivate and arrange her beautiful flowers, garden and cook for her family. She enjoyed watching her beloved Chicago Cubs and Bears. However, her favorite athletes to root for were her children and grandchildren. She was their super fan, always willing to get in her van and drive to the next event, until she was unable due to health issues.

Meredith was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents, grandparents and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her son Michael (Nora), Lakewood, IL; daughters Leslie (Bob) Gluck, Batavia, WI and Paula (Mike) Scholwin, Morris, IL. Her grandchildren: Clint (Lee) Chilcott, Lauren (Brian) Braaksma, Katy (Lee) Agney, Cody (Nicole) Langan, Emily (Christopher) Guy, Madeline (James) Londree, Kary (Austin) Halbrook and James Ator and her 11 great-grandchildren: Calvin, Jonah, Miles, Boone, Charles, Tessa, Henry, Woodrow, Jackson, Macklin and Lillian. She is further survived by her brother Tom More and sister-in-law, Helen Langan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Waterford in Plymouth for their outstanding care and compassion for the past 7 years, the angels at Sharon S. Richardson hospice who loving guided her final days, Allison Soerens, her gifted physician and Rev. Kristal Klemme for her love and support.

Services celebrating Meredith's life and legacy will be held on Saturday, March 14 at Suchon Funeral Home, Plymouth, WI. Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 pm with a service to follow at 3:00. Inurnment will take place at St. Petri's Wind Town Lutheran in Flanagan, Il at a later date.

Memorials will benefit Sharon S. Richardson Hospice and PEO International, an organization that supports the education of women, a mission close to Meredith's heart.
