Charles Hamann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Plymouth on Feb. 18, 2026.
Charles Hamann, age 89, of the Town of Sheboygan Falls, WI passed away on February 17, 2026. He was born on May 12, 1936 at 4:00 p.m. to the late Elmer and Amanda (Gutknecht) Hamann.

In November 1937, his parents purchased the farm he lived and worked on his entire life, which he took over and ran for many years. In 1984 he also served on the board of directors for Select Sires.

He married Gladys Lydia Lorenz on September 7, 1957 at Salem Plankroad United Church of Christ, where they both were confirmed and lifelong members.

He went to John School (a country school) and Plymouth High School. Charles belonged to 4-H where he once earned a reserve champion for an animal he showed.

In 1955 he joined the 32nd Division National Guard. Charles was called to full-time active duty in 1961 with the Red Arrow Company for the Berlin Crisis and was stationed in Washington. The 32nd Division active duty ended in July 1962 and shortly thereafter he received his Honorable Discharge.

In December 1992 he suffered a foot issue which made it necessary for his leg to be amputated below the knee. In 1995 he sold the cows due to those health issues. In 1997 his leg was further amputated above the knee and in 1999 an auction was held to sell the farm machinery.

Everyone was amazed at how he persevered in getting around with just the help of a walker and the one leg. Charles drove tractors to do field work for his nephews, Jack and James Hanke of Hanke Farms. He also enjoyed creating woodworking projects and volunteering at the stock car races.

Charles is survived by one daughter, Susan (James) Kieffer of Sheboygan; and one son, David of Sheboygan Falls; cousin, Jerry (Carla) Anger; as well as many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; parents, Elmer and Amanda; his father and mother-in-law, Herman and Lydia Lorenz; aunt, Anita (Ray) Anger; step-father in-law, Fred Wiegel; sister, Marilyn (Elroy) Hanke, and niece Cheryl; six step brothers in-law, Herman Jr. Lorenz, Walter (Marion) Lorenz, Alfred (Marie) Lorenz, Donald Lorenz, Harold Lorenz, and Robert (Marlene) Lorenz.

Visitation will be held on Saturday (February 21, 2026) at the Suchon Funeral Home from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM; with a funeral service at 4:00 PM. Pastor Dale Miller will officiate. Burial will be at Saron UCC Cemetery in Johnsonville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salem Plankroad United Church of Christ in memory of Charles.

Yesterday

I knew Charles since we attended John School. He, Gladys and I belonged to the same 4H Club.

We would see Charles and Gladys on Sundays, after church, at the Roadside in Plymouth. So many happy memories.
