DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory - EspanolaEvangeline Romero was born on June 30, 1968. She was the youngest child of three children, born to Jose V. Romero and Esther C. Romero. Her oldest brother Victor Romero lives and resides in Ojo Caliente, NM, Gabriel Romero, the second and middle brother lives and resides in Las Lunas, NM.
Being the youngest child, Vangie was very special. She was loved very much by her mother, father, grandparents, also played an important role in her growing up because they all lived together as one family.
In the summertime, Vangie’s uncles and aunts would come from Utah to visit which she enjoyed very much. Mom’s side of the family was made up of eight brothers and one sister. Dad’s family was made up of three brothers and one sister.
Vangie’s favorite hobbies were cooking, baking and word search puzzles. Her favorite times of the year were the holidays. She loved visiting and going to go eat for Thanksgiving and Christmas at Uncle Delio Gallegos and Uncle Albert Gallegos home in La Madera, NM.
Vangie attended school in Ojo Caliente and graduated from Mesa Vista High School. She decided to stay home with the household duties instead of furthering her education, on September 10, 2007, due to a heart attack.
Evangeline’s mother passed away. Vangie lived and stayed in Ojo Caliente in her home for two years after her mothers passing. In turn, she also became ill herself. Eventually she was forced to move and live in three nursing homes during her lifetime. My little sister passed away at St. Vincents Hospital in Santa Fe, NM, on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Vangie will greatly be missed by her cousins and friend, but most of all, she will always be remembered and loved on by her older brother. You will forever live in my thoughts and heart.
She is survived by her families of Junior Gallegos, Carlos Gallegos, Charlene Trujillo, Albert Gallegos, Johnny Lucero, Tino Lucero, Isidoro Lucero, Horace Martinez, Cindy Martinez, Elizabeth Martinez, Maxine Gomez, Dorene Gallegos, Pieda Archuleta, Carmen Naranjo, Robert Gallegos, Gene Gallegos and Janice Romero.
