IRON STATION – Evanthia Georgiou Asprogiannis, 90, of Iron Station, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at home, with her husband of 64 years, Georgios (George) Nikolau Asprogiannis by her side.

She was born on May 2, 1935, in Kalesmeno, Evritanias, Greece, the daughter of Nikolaos and Vasiliki Katsoudas. She attended technical school in Athens, where she earned a diploma as a seamstress. Evanthia and George were married on May 28, 1961.

After their marriage, they settled in Athens, where they welcomed their first daughter, Anastasia (Annie). They later returned to George's hometown of Agios Georgios, and there they welcomed their second daughter, Hrysanthi (Christy), who was born in Karpenisi, Greece. She and her family immigrated to Charlotte, North Carolina on July 6, 1974. She worked at Lance, Inc. in Charlotte, NC with her husband.

After retiring, she and her husband joined their daughters at Kenlin Academy Preschool in Iron Station, NC, working in the kitchen, where all the children lovingly knew her as Yiayia.

Evanthia embraced a simple, meaningful life, cherishing every moment spent with her family. She was a hardworking and faithful woman, known for her love, candor, and unwavering integrity. She found joy in cooking, gardening, dancing, and listening to her husband play the clarinet.

Evanthia is survived by her husband of 64 years, George; her daughters, Anastasia Denaux and husband, Charles of Denver, NC, and Christy Tomberlin and husband, Bryan of Iron Station, NC; her grandchildren, Kathryn Geerken of Charlotte, NC, Nikolas Geerken and fiancée, Larissa Smith of Toccoa, GA, Christopher Tomberlin and wife, Kelsey of Mooresboro, NC and Mary Houser and husband, Rankin of Bessemer City, NC; three great-grandchildren, Emmie Tomberlin, Tucker George Tomberlin and Maisie Parkin of whom she was blessed; her sister, Katherine Kiriakopolou and husband Georgios of Halandri, Greece, along with many nephews and nieces in the United States, Greece, and Australia.
