Cochran – Evelyn Asbell Durham, age 78, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025, in the Bleckley Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 1:00 P.M. until time for the service Monday at Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Evelyn, born in Hawkinsville, was the daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn Norris Asbell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas "Bull" Durham, Jr., her brother, Robert "Bob" Asbell and her sisters, Frances Asbell Cook and Rosemary Asbell Smith. Evelyn was a proud graduate of Cochran High School, Class of 1965 and later studied Language and Journalism at Middle Georgia College and Georgia Southwestern State University. Her love of learning and the written word guided her life. She devoted her career to education, serving as a paraprofessional and a Liberian media specials Bleckley County High School. It was there she found joy working among books and encouraging students to discover the magic of reading.

It was through a dear friend that Evelyn met the love of her life, Thomas Durham Jr., affectionately known as "Bull." Bull proudly served in the United States Navy for 21 years, and together they traveled wherever his service called them. Along the way, they welcomed two beloved sons, Tommy and Mark. After Bull's retirement, the family made their home in Cochran, where Evelyn and Bull built a life rich with love, laughter, and cherished friendships. Evelyn was a member of Cochran First Methodist Church.

Yellow tulips, Evelyn's favorite flower, were a symbol of the joy and hope she brought to others.

Survivors are her sons, Thomas M. "Tommy" (Debbie) Durham of Commerce and Mark W. (Shirley) Durham of Kaneohe, Hawaii; her grandsons Adam (Cassie) Durham, Jacob Durham, and Tommy Durham; and her great-granddaughters Emilyn and Madalyn Durham; her sister, Ann Asbell (Donald) Darsey of Cochran; several nieces and nephews.

The family is at 135 NeSmith Road, Cochran.
