Evelyn Margaret Gallagher passed away on July 26, 2024 at the age of 96. She was born Evelyn Margaret Barbour on May 11, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York. Her parents, Susan McElroy and Samuel Barbour, were both immigrants of Belfast, Ireland, and emigrated to the United States in 1921. Evelyn was the youngest of five siblings. She married her beloved husband James J Gallagher on July 8, 1950 and they had eight children together. Her greatest love was her family and was surrounded by them every day until her last day. She is predeceased by her husband James and her four siblings. She is survived by her eight children, Thomas Gallagher, James Gallagher, Brian Gallagher (Bill Repsher), John Gallagher, Susan Gallagher (Thomas Polovick), David Gallagher (Velene), Wendy Walsh (Bill), and Patricia Gallagher and six grandchildren, Kyle, Meghan, Jaqueline, Andrew, Diana, and Keara. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, Brinley, Liam, Amelia, and Harley. The family would like to thank the compassionate care of Carillon Nursing and Rehabilitation and especially the love and kindness she received from her devoted aid and dear friend Maria Reyes. Maria was like a daughter to her and is forever a member of the Gallagher family. Services will be Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at Moloney Funeral Home, 132 Ronkonkoma Ave, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY 11779.
