Evelyn King George
Born 1929 in Wilmington, North Carolina. All of her growing up years were spent in Miami, Florida. She graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and for the next 27 years had a thriving career in theatre, motion pictures and television - including many prime-time shows and major product commercials. From her New York debut in "Light Up The Sky" with Sam Levene, she went on to perform in over 100 theatrical productions as leading lady or supporting roles opposite such stars as James Whitmore, Celeste Holm, Jack Carson, Shirley Booth, Phyllis Diller, Gypsy Rose Lee, Harvey Korman, Rita Moreno, Don Knotts, Darren McGaven and Betty White. Evelyn received a Best Actress nomination for the coveted Sarah Siddons Award for her role as the housekeeper in "Separate Tables" in Chicago - sharing the nominee list with renown Helen Hayes. Some of her movie credits include "Stagestruck" with Henry Fonda, "A Face in the Crowd" with Andy Griffith and Patricia Neal, directed by Elia Kazan; "A Guide for a Married Man" with Walter Matthau, directed by Gene Kelly and "Mr.Buddwing" with James Garner. Evelyn starred in two pictures: "The Date" opposite Stafford Repp of "Batman" fame and in "The Checkered Flag". Her TV credits are numerous with early career appearances in "Hallmark Hall of Fame", "Playhouse 90" and "Dragnet". Some of her Los Angeles work included "The Red Skelton Show", "The Doris Day Show", "That Girl", "All in the Family", "Please Don't Eat The Daisies", "Valentine's Day" and "High Chaparral". Her performances in Milwaukee theatres earned her two best actress awards, The Freddie and The Swan.
In 2004, Evelyn moved from Miami to Oakmont in Santa Rosa to be near her daughter Nikarre Redcoff, her son-in-law Michael Lacy and their two precious children, Aidy and Cian. Her creative skills were utilized when she served on Oakmont's Facility Improvement Committee and re-designed interior décor for venues throughout the community. She became part of a three-member liaison team for the construction of Oakmont's new Central Activity Center - sharing in interior design selections. In 2009, she received the Co-Volunteer of the Year Award "for her extraordinary efforts that improved several Oakmont facilities".
In 2012, Evelyn was elected to Oakmont's Board of Directors and was deeply honored to serve the community she loved so much.
Continuing her theatrical interests, she supported The Miss California Organization, joining the Miss Sonoma County Scholarship Program as their first official drama coach.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her daughter, grandchildren and her son-in-law's huge extended family every Friday night in Sonoma.
Evelyn is lovingly survived by her daughter, Nikarre Redcoff (Michael Lacy); grandchildren: Aidy (Joy) and Cian Lacy; stepson, Theodore George (Nancy); step grandchildren: Alexandra Zimmer and Liliana; brother, Louis King; Niece, Dawn Roper; Nephew, Brian King; The extended Lacy Family and friends too numerous to count.
Services for Evelyn will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Roses. Reception information will be provided at the service. Private entombment, Santa Rosa Memorial Park, Santa Rosa, California. Contributions in her memory may be made to Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, 601 S. W. 8th Ave., Miami, Florida 33130.
