Evelyn King Obituary

Evelyn King
July 24, 1933 - March 13, 2026
Evelyn H. King, 92, of Windsor, beloved wife for 68 years of Robert Allen King, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, March 13, 2026, at her daughter's home in Simsbury. Born in Danbury on July 24, 1933, daughter of the late Albert Joseph and Barbara Mary (Jacko) Hrivnak, she was raised on her family's dairy farm in Newtown.
Evelyn excelled at soccer and basketball as a young girl and was an overall tremendous athlete. After graduating from Hawley High School (Newtown) with the Class of 1951, she continued her education at the University of Connecticut in Storrs where she majored in business. While at UConn, Evelyn met Bob and the young couple started dating. They were married in Newtown on October 5, 1957, and moved to Bob's hometown of Windsor where they had recently bought their first home. After purchasing their second home in New Hampshire, which happened to be filled with antiques, Evelyn and Bob immediately discovered a new hobby.
A true entrepreneur, Evelyn owned two florist shops in Windsor, but her true passions were working at Lite n up Eatery and being an antique dealer. She loved her restaurant coworkers and enjoyed socializing with their many loyal customers. Until 85 years old, Evelyn was making everyone's favorites - Mom's Mac N' Cheese, Lemon Bars, and Mom's Potato Salad. Over the years, as owner of Stable View Antiques, she participated in numerous antique shows. Evelyn beamed while telling stories about the history of her treasured finds – remarkably, she was still selling her antiques at the age of 92.
In her spare time, Evelyn loved tending to the many magnificent gardens around her home. She loved drying roses, along with freezing/canning the harvests from their vegetable gardens. Evelyn and Bob also enjoyed traveling and took many memorable trips throughout the United States and abroad including many trips to Germany with their neighbors Skip and Mona. Since playing with her childhood barn cats, over the years, she continued to enjoy companionship with many cats, especially her beloved Smokey.
In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters, Jennifer K. Annello of Waterford and Susan King Hixson and her husband Mark of Simsbury; two grandchildren, Alyssa Annello of Lyme and James Annello and his wife Kassandra of East Lyme; and four great-grandchildren, Addison and Callie Goddu, and Luca and Maya Annello. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Albert Joseph Hrivnak, Jr. and a sister Helen Dorothy Andrejczyk.
Her family will receive friends on Friday, March 20, 3-6 p.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Church St., in the Tariffville section of Simsbury. Burial will be private in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown. The family would like to thank McLean Hospice for their care.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Connecticut Northeast Organic Farming Association (CT NOFA), 358 Springside Ave., New Haven, CT 06515 or by visiting, www.ctnofa.org; or CT Cat Connection, 40 Stevens Mill Rd., Windsor, CT 06095 or by visiting, www.ctcatconnection.org.
