Evelyn Lorenzo Lynge, 81, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, passed away on May 28, 2025 in Columbia, Maryland while visiting her son and grandchildren.
Mrs. Lynge was born January 1, 1944, in Legazpi, Philippines, to the late David and Modesta Lorenzo.
Mrs. Lynge grew up with 12 brothers and sisters in a household that did not have much in material resources but did have abundant love. She matriculated and earned a bachelor's degree in geology from Adamson University in 1968, then fell in love with a U.S. Airman, Thomas Michael Lynge. They moved together to the United States and were married in 1968.
Mr. and Mrs. Lynge had two sons, Christopher and Michael, in 1970 and 1971. Mrs. Lynge devoted herself to raising them and pursued her career as a geologist when her husband's military career allowed. Mr. Lynge left the U.S. Air Force and joined the U.S. Marines, and the family moved from base to base, spending time in Quantico, Virginia; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Beaufort, South Carolina; and finally, Jacksonville, North Carolina, where Mrs. Lynge would remain upon their divorce in 1985.
Mrs. Lynge built a life in Jacksonville based around her Catholic faith and surrounded by good friends who supported her through good times and bad. She was a friend to everyone who knew her, a generous soul who was always helping others in their time of need. She joined the American Association of University Women, volunteered as an election judge, and worked part-time as a substitute teacher for high schools and community college, military training role player, and other jobs when she was physically able to do so. She also loved spending time with her sons and their families and teaching them valuable skills such as cooking, sewing, and gardening. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren and talked about them to everyone.
Mrs. Lynge is survived by her two sons, Christopher Lynge (Tracy) of
Ellicott City, Maryland and Michael Lynge (Hana) of Corpus Christi, Texas; and grandchildren David, Daniel, Reece, and Kara. She is also survived by one sister, Ellen and one brother Rudy, and many nieces and nephews living in Belgium and the Philippines.
