Evelyn McAbee, 102, of Piedmont, South Carolina, wife of the late Russell “Buck” Louie McAbee, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at her home surrounded by family.
Born on May 26, 1923, in Greenville, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Amos Wilton and Minnie Browning Carroll. Evelyn was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She embraced her roles with a warmth that enveloped all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her ever-present smile seemed to shine even in the storms of life, a testament to her resilient and joyful spirit. The essence of her being was captured beautifully in her dedication to her family; they were the heart of her existence, and her happiness radiated from the time she spent with them. Throughout her career, Evelyn wore many hats, though her most cherished role was that of a homemaker. She also dedicated 20 valuable years to Kemet in Simpsonville, South Carolina, where her hard work was unmatched. Even after her retirement, she continued to nurture her home and loved ones with the same dedication that defined her career. Evelyn's passions extended well beyond her family. She found immense joy in gardening, crocheting, and ceramics, each hobby reflecting her creative spirit. Whether nurturing flowers, spending time with her family, or reading her bible, she infused beauty into the world around her. Bird watching drew her into nature's delicate wonders, where she marveled at the simple yet profound miracles of life. Her culinary skills were legendary, and her kitchen was often a gathering place for family and friends savoring her delicious creations. As a devoted member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Evelyn's spirit soared in the choir, where she sang with a voice that resonated with love and gratitude. Her faith was her guiding light, and it was through her connection to the church that she fostered deep friendships and community bonds that withstand the test of time.
She is survived by three sons, Michael McAbee (Paulette), Barry J. McAbee (Priscilla), and Randy McAbee (Janice); one daughter, Darlene Norton (Tim); eight grandchildren, Rusty, April, Kevin, Jennifer, Jessica, Nicole, Elizabeth, and Julie; twelve great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by five brothers, Lemuel Carroll, Herbert Carroll, Julian Carroll, N.J. Carroll, and A.W. Carroll; four sisters, Sybil Jones, Mozelle Pittman, Doris Porter, and Nell Blackwell; as well as two siblings who passed away as infants.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Mt. Airy Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to her granddaughters, Nicole, Julie, and Elizabeth, as well as her caregivers Shari Jeanes, Linda Workman, and Lisa Patterson from Right at Home Sitters, for their love and care for Evelyn during her last days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lottie Moon c/o Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 210 Mt. Airy Church Road, Easley, SC 29642.
