William Michael McAbee was born in Bartow, Florida son of the late William Howard McAbee and the late Leslie June Peck McAbee. He was reared in numerous cities across the United States, due to his father’s military career. During his high school years, they returned to Florida and lived in Destin, where Mike graduated high school. He followed in his father’s footsteps and enlisted in the military serving in the U.S. Airforce, where he obtained the skills of a mechanic. He began his working career in Atlanta, working for Goodyear Tire Company. In 1977 he and Laura moved to Sandersville, where Mike managed the local Goodyear Tire Store. He later transferred to Dorman Dodge, where he worked as a master mechanic until retirement. Mike loved being on the water in his boat. Boating and fishing, especially in Florida, were his favorite pastimes.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Laura Henson McAbee of Sandersville; sons, Michael Clayton McAbee (Kyle) of Atlanta and Patrick Henson McAbee (Jessica) of Warner Robins; his granddaughter Sydnee McAbee and his brother Howard Peck McAbee (Mary) of Atlanta.
