Evelyn Stout McGee passed away on Sunday January 9th, 2022, at St. Catherine's Village. She was born in Plant City, Fl. May 4th, 1927, to Edna Johnson Stout and Milo Norton Stout. She and her family moved to Hammond, Louisiana when she was less than 3 years old. She was educated in the public schools of LA and later graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University and Louisiana State University. Her lifelong love of education was instilled at an early age, and she taught in public schools of Louisiana for 42 years, mostly 5th grade. She was beloved by her community, having taught generations who became mayor, bankers, plumbers, and strawberry farmers. She was an enduring supporter of her alma mater of Southeastern Louisiana, where a scholarship has been set up in her name. On August 10, 1954, she married John LeRoy McGee. Their daughter Jean McGee Miller is their only child. After her husband died in 2001, when asked if she would like to date again, she replied 'I had the best man God ever gave breath to, what makes you think I'd get that lucky a second time?' Their first grandchild, Lindsay Miller Cannon, was born on their 30th anniversary. Together, Evelyn and Johnny were pillars of the community. She was a lifelong Lutheran and participated in all church activities, from teaching Bible School to supporting youth education. Her heart and soul revolved around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who responded to the love of their Gaga. With her husband, she traveled extensively with the Savings and Loan Association. They made friends all over the country. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her only brother, Edward N. Stout. She is survived by her daughter Jean McGee Miller and husband Jeff of Ridgeland, MS and granddaughter Lindsay Miller Cannon and husband Colby of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and grandson Martin Patrick Miller and wife Austin of Jackson and their two children, Julia and Patrick. Funeral services will be held Friday, the 14th at 2 PM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Hammond, LA. Graveside service will follow at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, also of Hammond. Family and friends are invited to St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Hammond for a visitation at 1 PM. Memorials may be sent to St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 707 W. Dakota St Hammond, LA 985-345-6008; Grace Memorial Episcopal Church 100 W. Church St Hammond LA 985-345-2764; or Southeastern LA University contributions may be made to the Evelyn S. My sincere condolences to the family of Evelyn. What a wonderful person to know, to listen to, and just to be around her to absorb a little of her abundance of goodness and energy. My husband, Kemmler and Johnny were members on the Board of the Building and Loan in Hammond. Once a year a small group would journey to an event or meeting in another state and my fondest memory of Evelyn was so much fun to remember. Along the way, we would stop at a local shopping or tourist attraction and believe me, the wheels had barely stopped when Evelyn would fling the door open and out she went to find something special she would later pass along to her friends. God Bless Her Soul and may she rest in peace.

Miss Stout was the heart throb of every 6th grade boy in 1953-54. We didn´t like the idea of Johnny Magee wooing her at all!

Sending condolences for the loss of your mother Jean. Miss McGee always had a contagious smile and a beautiful friendship with her St Paul family. My parents attended church with her and she taught my sister, Lorinda Girard Gourgeot in the 60´s. She was such a classy lady!! She was loved by many .

To the family of Evelyn...I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Evelyn. She was a beautiful sweet person and my favorite teacher. My mother was working at D.H. Holmes in New Orleans on Canal Street when I was in her class. My mother was a makeup artist there and Evelyn would get her cosmetics from her. Max Factor was her favorite brand to put on her beautiful complexion. So many wonderful memories so long ago. She will be missed by all the lives she touched. My thoughts and prayers for the family.

Former student of this first class lady, enjoyed visiting with her and her lunch group when they were able to get out and about. In later years my daughter became a teacher and got to meet this special lady and be in the same teacher's club as Ms. Evelyn. I would not attempt to count the many lives she touched, it would be to numerous.

I am truly honored to have had Mrs. Evelyn McGee as a mentor and a friend. She was a true southern lady who was just as pretty on the inside as she was on the outside. I loved her humor and enjoyed her stories. She will be missed.
