Evelyn E. Meinnert, age 100, of Pine Haven Assisted Living in Oostburg, passed away on October 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on July 7, 1925 in the Town of Mosel, WI, a daughter of the late Oscar and Ida Haack Thiel.
She attended Haven Grade School and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1943.
On August 24, 1946, Evelyn married Willard Meinnert at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Haven, WI. After their marriage the couple resided at numerous farms in Sheboygan County, moving to Plymouth in 1973 and then to Oostburg Assisted Living March 2024.
She was employed for a short time at Polarware Company in Sheboygan. She also worked at G.T.E. (Verizon) for 20 years retiring in 1990.
Evelyn was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth and was President and Secretary of Willing Workers and Naomi Circle. She also taught Sunday school for many years and was President and Secretary for the Ladies Aide.
She was in the church choir, was a Hospital Auxiliary and Red Cross Volunteer working at many Blood Drives. She served on the Board of Directors for the Food Pantry and was also Food Pantry Volunteer until as 96. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, bingo, GTE Retiree luncheons and working at the Sheboygan County Fair. She was a 1st and 3rd grade volunteer in the readers program and also a volunteer for 4-H. Evelyn communicated with a pen pal and she enjoyed writing poetry. She wrote a poem for everyone who retired from GTE and had an original poem published in "Coming of the Dawn."
Survivors include: Six children: Eileen Lanser of Sumerduck, VA, David of Rhinelander, WI, Daniel of Winchester, WI & Incline Village, NV, Dean of New Caton, VA & Key West, FL, Perry (Thomosa) of Belleview, FL, and Mary (Robert) Dias of New Albany, IN
22 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; Brother, Merlin Thiel of Green Bay, WI; Sister, Carol Blazic of Mission Hills, CA; 3 sisters-in-law: Alice Thomas, Diane Meinnert & Janette Meinnert all of WI.
She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by: Her husband, Willard Meinnert, as well as eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Visitation will take place from 10:00am – 12:00pm, with a service to follow at 12:00pm. Pastor Andrew Fortuine, Pine Haven chaplain will officiate.
Burial will be in the Saron United Church of Christ Cemetery in the Town of Sheboygan Falls.
