Evelyn Morford Obituary

Evelyn Fanny Morford, age 89, of Spring Lake passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025, in Grand Haven, MI. She was born October 2, 1936, in Grand Haven to Albert F., and Doris Evelyn (Field) Knuth. Evelyn married Vincent DeLyle "Vince" Morford on May 17, 1957, and they were blessed to celebrate fifty-four years of marriage, before Vince passed away, on November 30, 2011.

Evelyn graduated from Grand Haven High School class of 1954 and then attended Hackley School of Nursing to become a Registered Nurse. Furthering her education, Evelyn then went on to obtain her bachelor's degree from Wayne State University, and her Master's Degree of Nursing, from Ball State University. She worked at various area hospitals, retiring from St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids. Evelyn also taught at Muskegon Community College, St. Mary's, Baker College and Cumberland College and helped consult to set up nursing programs.

She was a lifetime member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she took part in many activities, and served on Altar Guild. Evelyn's life was a servant's life to her Lord and the many patients and student nurses she taught. For many years she enjoyed volunteering at Four Pointes Senior Center and also served as President of Tri-Cities Ministries. She was presented a prestigious award by the MMAP (Michigan Medicare Assistance Program) for volunteer of the year, for five years. Most important to her were her family and friends. Evelyn also enjoyed traveling to museums and historical sites, and gardening.

Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by two sons: Vincent Bruce (Denise) Morford, Charles Morford, and step-son, James (Susan) Morford; five grandchildren: Megan (Michael) Hajduk, Kelley (Thomas) Morford-Jaffeux, Jeremiah Merten, Robert (Nicole) Morford, and Jennifer (Justin) Ritter; seven great-grandchildren: Andrew Hajduk, Roman Merten, Brayden Morford, Kellen Morford, Wesley Morford, Beatrice Ritter and Stella Ritter; two step-grandchildren, Brooke Shears and Patrick (Alicia) Shears; her three sisters: Charlene Knuth, Alberta Knuth and Alice Andersen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vince, and brother, Timothy Knuth in 1955.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, at The VanZantwick Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Lake Forest Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417.

Yesterday

Evelyn was one of the kindest nicest people I have ever met. She always wanted to do for others. She was a great friend to me and I will miss her very much. Always willing to help anyone, she also helped with the meals at her church for a very long time.

As a former member of the altar guild, I often served with Evelyn and thought the world of her. I am so sorry for your loss, indeed for all of our loss. She was an indelible part of the fabric of St. John's and I will miss her.

Evelyn was one of the most giving people I have ever met. She had a true servant's soul, and always had time for anyone in need. I knew Evelyn for 17 years, and she never ceased to amaze me with her caring, humble, intelligent personality. She will be missed by so many people whose lives she touched. Love you, Evelyn
