Evelyn LuElla Peterson

Evelyn Peterson, 97, of Salem passed away on Wednesday, August 10 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, August 13 at 11 am at Sun Prairie Baptist Church, rural Salem. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Burial will take place at Ramsey Baptist Cemetery at 1:30 pm. Visitation with family present will be held from 5 - 7 pm on Friday at Kinzley Funeral Home, Salem. The funeral service will be livestreamed and a link will be posted here that morning.
Evelyn LuElla (Storhaug) Peterson, daughter of Haaken and Jennie Storhaug was born on February 14, 1925 on the family farm near Erwin, SD. Evelyn Attended Giles country school and then attended Lake Preston High School. After graduation, she attended General Beadle Teachers College (now Dakota State University) in Madison to get her teaching degree. Evelyn taught for three years in country schools before she met and married Clarence C. Peterson on June 8, 1946. They farmed in the Salem area for 41 years until 1986 when they moved into a home in Salem.
Evelyn was a member of Sun Prairie Baptist Church, rural Salem, many Bible Study groups, Extension club - Center Chums and volunteered for several years at the Salem nursing home.
Survivors include 5 children: Marilyn Thompson and Arlys Peterson of Sioux Falls, Norman (Mary Rae) of Montrose, Kevin (Betty) of Salem, and Denise (Brad) Snell of Tracy, MN; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, a daughter, Jeannine and a great-granddaughter Savayah Pettengill, her parents, two brothers (Art and Morris Storhaug) and two sisters (Gladys Costello and Alma Trumm).
