Evelyn M. Plainte

Evelyn M. Plainte, age 83, a long time resident of Old Saybrook passed away on Wednesday morning December 9, 2015 at the Bayview Health Care Center in Waterford. Evelyn was the beloved wife of the late Philip L. Plainte who predeceased her on December 31, 2005. Evelyn was born in Hartford, Connecticut on August 16, 1932 the daughter of John N. and Addie M. (Mochau) Tychsen. She was a graduate of East Hartford High School and received her Bachelors of Science Degree at Wheaton Teachers College in Illinois. She then graduated from the Cornell University, New York Hospital School of Nursing and then went on to receive her Masters Degree from the Columbia Teachers College. Evelyn enjoyed a career of educating nurses and prior to her retirement, taught at the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing. She was an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Old Saybrook, and was a member of the church choir. She enjoyed Bible study, dinning out, swimming, walking, arts and crafts, and was an avid reader. Evelyn leaves her nephews, Dixon and his wife Judith Plainte, of Groveland, MA., Lyle Plainte and his wife Joyce of Hardwick, MA., and Brandon Plainte, of Brookfield MA., Evelyn also leaves her Great-Nephews: Michael Plainte and his wife Cheryl, Christopher Plainte and his wife Cheryl, Brian Plainte and his fiancée Tania Perry, Eric Plainte, Matthew Plainte and his wife Elizabeth, and her Great-Niece, Heather Clark and her husband Jason. Evelyn's family would like to thank the staffs of Bayview Health Care and the Center for Hospice Care, Southeast Connecticut in Norwich for their loving care of Evelyn. Special thanks to her very good friend Pat Kobylenski and Stacey DeBruin, her Geriatric Care Manager. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 336 Main Street in Old Saybrook, on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 11:00AM.
