Evelyn J. Townsend, age 81, of Frankford, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE.

Evelyn was born on April 12, 1944, in Ocean City, MD, the daughter of the late James Casper and Sarah (Hatter) Hudson Webb.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Evelyn was known for her strong work ethic and kind spirit. She worked alongside her beloved husband on their family farm, served as a dedicated homemaker, and later was employed at Jay's Market, Holiday House Restaurant, and Bennett Peach Farm. Evelyn was a lifetime member of the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, where she held numerous offices, and a faithful member of Frankford Community Church.

Evelyn loved hosting large crab feasts and cherished Sunday dinners surrounded by her family. She was an exceptional cook, famous for her banana cake, applesauce cakes, and pies. She enjoyed playing cards and visiting with her large extended family, creating countless fond memories over the years.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Townsend, Jr.; her son, Raymond Townsend III; eight sisters, Jennie Clark, Molly Russell, Katie Toomey, Sarah Vickers, Frances Quillen, Nellie Sawyer, Louise Farlow, and Anna Mae Tyre; and two brothers-in-law, Charles "Chap" Toomey and Sherman Townsend.

She is survived by her son, Alden "Al" Townsend and his wife, Tammy, of Dagsboro, DE; her daughter, Muriel Allaband and her husband, Kris, of Harrington, DE; her daughter-in-law, Penny Townsend of Dagsboro, DE; five grandchildren, Harry "Allen" Larson IV and his wife, Rebecca, Jacob Townsend and his wife, Torrie, Samantha Gillespie, Paige Cathell and her husband, Chad, and Peyton Townsend and his fiancé Kelsey; four great-grandchildren, Rylynn Larson, Tatum Townsend, Delaney Cathell, and Mason Cathell; a sister, Josephine Dennis; a brother, James Hudson and his wife, Donna; a sister-in-law, Elaine Townsend; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 2:00–4:00 PM on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, DE 19945. A viewing will also be held from 10:00–11:00 AM on Monday, November 10, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. George's Cemetery in Clarksville, DE.

Evelyn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Evelyn's name to the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 128, Dagsboro, DE 19939 or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
