Evelyn Sandy Whitmore, 96, widow of Randolph Whitmore gained her angel wings on Friday, August 30, 2024, in Christiansburg, Virginia.

She was born on May 1, 1928, in Stuarts Draft to the late O. S. and Carmen Hall Sandy who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Garver Sandy and his wife Wilma.

Evelyn was a member of Hebron Presbyterian Church for sixty-eight years. 

She had a passion for gardening and growing flowers. The holiday seasons were particularly special to Evelyn, as she delighted in decorating her home. 

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, enjoying beautiful sunsets and taking in the wildlife all around her. She could often be found watching birds, squirrels, rabbits and deer.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Perdue and her husband Julien whom she lived with over the past seventeen months and Sandy Peters; her grandchildren, Whitney Strahl and Mark Perdue; her nephew, David Sandy (Francisca) of California and her nieces, Alice Brewster (Tom) and Paula Louise Moses of Pennsylvania.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Hebron Presbyterian Church with Reverend Allison Unroe officiating.

A graveside will immediately follow at New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Serving as active pallbearers will be John Brown, Charles Drumheller, Jim Crawford, Charles Buchanan, Larry Thompson, Danny Miller and Robert Lam.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Dundas, Keyser Kirtley, Robert Christian, Mike Ruleman and David Moore,

The family would like to thank her caregivers Sue Holmes, Grace Harris and Debbie Carroll, LewisGale Montgomery Hospital doctors and nurses, and Warm Hearth at Home staff, Olivia and Johnathan.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (1445 E, 1445 Rio Rd. E Suite 104, Charlottesville, VA. 22901) or Hebron Presbyterian Church (423 Hebron Rd., Staunton, VA. 24401).
