Evert Anthony "Bubba" Hermes Jr.

November 13, 1949 – August 13, 2025

Evert Anthony Hermes Jr., lovingly known to all as Bubba, was called home on August 13th, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 75 years old.

Bubba was preceded in death by his daughter Lindsey Reagan Hermes, his parents Evert Anthony "Buck" Hermes Sr. and Alice Hermes, sisters Barbara Weaver and Sandra Ries, and brother, Travis Hermes. Their memory and Bubba's memories will live on through Bubba's children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who carry a piece of their spirit and strength.

A proud graduate of Highlands High School, Bubba was the catcher and co-captain of the Highlands Owls baseball team which in 1968 won the state championship and is still the only San Antonio school to ever do so at the highest UIL level, something he was extremely proud of. His talent and leadership on the field earned him an athletic scholarship to Trinity University, where he continued to play the game, which he loved and graduated with a degree in Construction Management.

He began his career as a homebuilding Superintendent with a young custom homebuilder. His talent and drive quickly caught the attention of Jack Devore, a respected builder who took Bubba under his wing. Together, they helped shape the future of San Antonio by building Mission Trace, the city's first master-planned community. Bubba went on to become a master builder and proud owner in his own right and started his own construction company for custom home building. In his later years he focused more on home remodeling. Whether on a job site or around the dinner table, Bubba lived with purpose, pride, and a deep commitment to those he loved.

Bubba continued his passion for baseball by coaching his daughter Ashley, in softball and son Todd, in baseball at McAllister Park Little League. Under his guidance, Ashley's All-Star girls' softball team advanced to the regional tournament, a true testament to his skill, dedication, and ability to inspire. Bubba made a lasting impact on countless young men and women through his coaching years, teaching not only the fundamentals of the game, but the values of teamwork, respect, and heart.

Bubba was a salt of the earth guy. Honest, hardworking, and deeply rooted in family and friendship, generous to the core. He would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought, and his handshake meant more than any contract.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Coralee. Together, they shared a rhythm all their own; two-stepping at local dance halls to their favorite songs, soaking in coastal sunsets, attending the San Antonio Rodeo and embracing every moment with joy and devotion. He and Coralee loved the decades of serving as volunteers and later as life members on the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Auction Committee. The Auction Committee was a lot of hard work, but in true Bubba fashion he made sure everyone had more good times while making many memories and many, many friends for life sharing his time and love. Bubba found happiness in life's simple pleasures fishing in Rockport, barbecuing for friends and family, or sipping a cold Budweiser while watching the sun set over Copano Bay, always with Coralee by his side.

He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children; Ashley (Jimmie) Hayden, Todd (Kelli) Hermes, Sean (Amy) Green and Kyle (Myranda) Green. His grandchildren; Cole (Samantha) Hayden, Wyatt Hayden, Walker Hayden, Brylee Hayden, Kieran Green, Cameryn Green, Cooper Bearden, Davis Bearden,

Zach Green, and Zoe Green. They will carry forward his stories, his laughter, and his unwavering devotion to family.

Bubba lived life with a big heart, a bigger smile, and an energy that lifted everyone around him. He taught us how to work hard, love fiercely, and enjoy every moment. His life will be celebrated in the way he lived it, surrounded by family, friends, laughter, and love….. and cold Budweiser.

A memorial and celebration of life will be held in Bubba's honor at the Western Sky Event Venue at Tejas Rodeo on Friday September 5th beginning at 11:30 am.
