Expher Hargrove Obituary

Expher Jerome Hargrove, 75, of Windsor, beloved husband for 48 years of Elaine Patricia (Astwood) Hargrove, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Riceboro, GA on July 27, 1950, son of the late Saul and Clara Mae (Richardson) Hargrove, he was raised in Riceboro, GA and was a graduate of Liberty County High School, Class of 1968. Shortly after graduating from high school, Expher moved to Hartford and took a position at Nassau's Furniture on Main Street in Hartford. In the mid-1980's, he pursued working in the newly emerging field of cable television and communications. He accepted a position with the cable company and was trained as a technician. Expher loved his work and was well known for his years of experience and ability to solve any problem that other technicians faced. As he progressed in his career and became a trainer, a job which he loved, and he received numerous recognitions and awards for his work. After many mergers and acquisitions in the cable and communications industry, Expher retired from Comcast in 2012 after 27 years of service to the company. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing in the ocean off the Connecticut shoreline and if time allowed, in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. His love of cooking and entertaining family and friends led him to become a master of barbequing and grilling. He loved sharing his homemade barbeque sauce and his latest catch from fishing with others and treating them to his culinary talents. A huge football fan, Expher loved the Dallas Cowboys and never missed a game during the football season. Most of all, Expher will be remembered as kind person who was always willing to help his family and friends. He was the consummate family man and was deeply loved by his wife, children, and grandchildren. In addition to his wife and partner of over 50 years, Elaine, he leaves to mourn his passing, two sons, Demond Hargrove and his wife Silvana of Union, NJ, and Jerome "June" Hargrove and his wife Jana of Windsor; four grandchildren, Gabriel and Cristian Hargrove of Union, NJ, and Juliana and Jada Hargrove of Windsor; four brothers, Saul Hargrove and his wife Sharon of East Hartford, David Hargrove of Hartford, Charlton Hargrove and his wife Geraldine of Riceboro, GA, and Errol Hargrove and his wife Patricia of Hartford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, William Hargrove and Abraham LeCounte. His family will receive friends on Monday, September 22, 10-11 a.m., followed by a Homegoing Service at 11 a.m., at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor.
