Our beloved Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt and friend Ezzie Roberta McFarland, passed
peacefully from this life on Monday, July 11 at her home in Midwest City, Oklahoma at the age
of 102. She began her journey in Tupelo, Oklahoma, born to William Norman and Cora Ellen
Palmer, along with her twin sister Bezzie, on August 5, 1919. Shortly thereafter, the family of 7
moved to a farm in Calumet, Oklahoma, where she attended school and graduated from
Calumet High School in 1938. She met her future husband, David McFarland, in high school and
they eloped in Geary, Oklahoma in 1940. Ezzie began working at The Air Depot, which is now
Tinker Air Force Base, in 1943 as an Aircraft Electrician when her husband joined the Navy in
WWII. After the war, they bought a home and she became a mother to 5 children and
dedicated the rest of her life to her family. She was a survivor of the Dust Bowl, the Great
Depression and a lifelong Oklahoma resident. She developed many hobbies and talents along
the way including creating five star dinners in the blink of an eye with few ingredients for seven
people, planning annual family vacation itineraries with many surprises along the way, and
spreading her love unequivocally to her nieces, nephews and grandchildren with visits to
Oklahoma City attractions and summer vacations in the City. She became a master home
decorator, upholstering furniture and replacing wallpaper, painting and adding new draperies.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening and travel. After retirement, she visited many locations
that she had dreamed of including Hawaii, the United Kingdom, Germany and Switzerland.
Some of her grandchildren were blessed to have accompanied her on some of these travels.
Ezzie was a huge fan of strawberries. From an early age, she was known to eat so many that she
got sick. That never kept her from preferring any food that was strawberry flavored. She was a
faithful Christian. She attended First Christian Church in Calumet and St. Philip Neri Catholic
Church in Midwest City. Her faith in Jesus Christ was an inspiration to all who knew her. She
was married to David for 45 years until his death in 1985. Her friends and family will always
remember after a visit with her or when concluding a phone call, before saying goodbye, she
always said "Come see me!" If she was taking food from the oven, she would declare "Come,
hep ya seff!" She was compassionate and made sure her family had everything they needed.
She spread that love to everyone that knew her. She will be forever remembered and missed.
Ezzie was preceded in the death by her parents, Norman and Cora Palmer, husband David
McFarland, brothers Carl and Ernest Palmer, sister Carrie Palmer, and granddaughter Angela
Trent. She is survived by her twin sister, Bezzie Laughlin of Calumet, her sons Richard of
Florida, Stephen and Sarah of NM, James and Marjorie of Colorado, Randall Joseph of the
home, and daughter Darlene of Midwest City. She enjoyed the love of 6 grandchildren, Angela
Trent, Sara Haack and husband Joel, Aaron Trent and Victoria, Thomas McFarland and Crystal,
William McFarland, Kate McFarland, and 3 great grandchildren, Liam, Isabella, and Henley along
with many nieces and nephews.
Her services will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022 at El Reno Cemetery, 1300 E Elm St, El
Reno, OK with visitation from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00, then a procession to the cemetery service in
her honor. Visitation also on Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. Friends may leave
