Fay Moon was born in Cleveland County, North Carolina along with his late twin brother Ray Moon on December 25, 1945, to the late Joseph and Laura Moon. He was the tenth child of eleven children and the seventh son. Fay departed this life on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the age of seventy-seven in San Antonio, TX. When Fay was ten years old, the family moved to Philadelphia, PA where they settled and most continue to reside today. Fay accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and was later baptized.

In Philadelphia, Fay attended Dobbins High School. Later, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was then deployed to South Korea and served in the DMZ. Upon his completion of Army service, he transitioned into civilian life working multiple jobs in Philadelphia.

Fay completed an associate degree at the Community College of Philadelphia. Subsequently, in 1979, he moved to the Washington DC metropolitan area. Here is where he was introduced to his future wife, Soledad, by his cousin Phyllis. It was during this time in DC that he began working at Bell Atlantic (Verizon) as a Frame Technician at the Downtown Frame. He was one of the key workers who modernized the communications systems in the White House during the early 1980s. Once that project was completed, he was transferred to the Senate Dirksen Building, where he received many accolades. He continued his career there until retirement in 2002. He completed two bachelor's degrees in Information Systems and Business Administration from the Columbia Union College in Tacoma Park, Maryland. He was two credits short of receiving a master’s degree in Business Management. Shortly after retirement, he joined the Defense Contract Management Agency in Virginia, where he worked as a Certified Acquisition Professional in Contracting. When the family moved to Holloman AFB, he continued working as a Contract Administrator on the base.

As the family continued to move around, they planted in San Antonio, TX where he had a short employment at Ft Sam Houston as a Contract Specialist. Fay ultimately decided to support his wife and become a stay-at-home dad. That is where his service as a volunteer for the RFISD schools originated and remained constant for ten years. He served as Treasurer of the PTO in 2008 and supported the high school band and athletic departments via numerous fundraising activities. His volunteerism did not end there. He was the only man to join the Officers’ Spouses Club and set the example for other men to join. He also served as Treasurer of the club and participated in many fundraising events to raise funds for scholarships and other needs in the community. He also served on the board of the HOA in his community in Garden Ridge. He was a member of the Randolph Protestant Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher to fourth-grade students, and was also a member of the Randolph Protestant Men of the Chapel.

Fay loved every aspects of sports. He especially enjoyed watching college football. He was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and was elated with their Superbowl win.

Fay was truly loved by all. He brought laughter and joy to many he encountered and made each person feel special. A loyal friend to many, he kept in contact with friends from every walk of life.

Fay is preceded in death by his parents, sister Thelma, and brothers Joseph Jr., Charles, Willie David, twin brother Ray, and Herman. He is survived by his wife, Soledad, children Malcolm, Melanie, and Tyretta, two brothers Lloyd and James, two sisters Maggie (Warren) Keels and Mary (Sylvester) Grier, four grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and a myriad of relatives and friends.

Rest in peace, Fay. We love you, but God loves you best.

Sorrowfully Submitted, The Family
