Fay MaryAlice Schroeder

1933 - 2025

Fay MaryAlice Schroeder, age 92, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, at her daughter Cheri's home in Terre Haute, Indiana. Born in Duluth, Minnesota on July 23, 1933, Fay was the daughter of Charles and Frances Black.

On December 15, 1951, Fay married the love of her life, Gustave Schroeder. Together, they built a home and a life in Babbitt, Minnesota, where they lived for 70 years and shared 57 years of marriage. Fay and Gust raised their family surrounded by the beauty of the Northwoods and the warmth of community. They enjoyed camping, cross-country skiing, trap shooting, and family trips to Potawatomi. They were members of Woodland Presbyterian Church.

Fay found joy in sewing, crafting, ceramics, painting, gardening, cooking, and baking-especially during the holidays. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she delighted in decorating, wrapping gifts, and hosting family gatherings filled with love and her signature dishes. She also created beautiful floral and wedding bouquets for family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Frances Black; her husband Gust; her brother, Ray Black; and her sister, Dawn Anderson. Fay is survived by her three children: Doug (Glenna) Schroeder, Denise Walters, and Cheri Olsen; six grandchildren: Vanessa (Andrew) Scudder, Barbara Walters, Brian Haus, Cassie Olsen, Jason Olsen, and Nathan Olsen; and eight great-grandchildren: Autumn Scudder, Ellie Scudder, Clayton Haus, Timothy Fiddler III, Skyler Fiddler, Isaac Fiddler, AraBella Olsen and Paul Olsen. She is also survived by her sisters Renee (Frank) Budimir and Nancy (Bob) Poferl.

Fay will be laid to rest next spring in the Babbitt Cemetery beside her beloved husband, Gust. Her legacy of love, creativity, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
