Faye Thomas Assi, 88, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Faye, the matriarch of her family, was a wonderful mother, situ (grandmother), wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and godmother, and will be greatly missed.
After immigrating to the US from Syria in 1948 with her parents and brothers, the Thomas family settled in Pittsburgh. She began first grade at age 13 and graduated from Homestead High School in just a few short years. She then went on to work at General Electric until she met the love of her life, Ralph, who took her to El Paso to begin their life together. Faye proudly served as President of the Syrian American Ladies Club of El Paso and was an active member of her church, St. George, for over 60 years. She was also an active member of St. George’s Ladies Society. Faye loved her family, tending to her garden, cooking, playing cards, and volunteering at the annual Middle Eastern church festival. Faye is preceded in death by her parents, Ghattas Thomas and Sameera Haddad; her loving husband, Ralph Assi; and her brothers, Edward Thomas, Dr. Harold Thomas, and Chuck Thomas. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Muneer Assi (Rima) and Dr. Edward Assi (Chanel); her brothers, Bill Thomas (Joyce), Dr. George Thomas (Anne), and Dr. Jim Thomas (Debbie); and her wonderful grandchildren, Stephanie Assi, Cole Assi, Ashley Assi, Bryan Assi, Blake Assi, and Madelyn Assi. She is also survived by many extended family and friends who cherish and honor her memory.
The family would like to thank Scott Heri with Grandview Home Health for his exceptional care of Faye for many years as well as Abel Rivera who was always there for her without fail, no matter the task. Thank you to the wonderful, loving, and caring staff at The Legacy at Cimmaron Assisted Living where she lived for the last two years. A special thank you to Christopher and Zeina Ferris for their constant love, support, and attention.
