Faye Marie Burke passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Center in Scotland, achieving the age of 77 years, 11 months and 7 days.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 20 at St. George Catholic Church in Scotland.
Her funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 21 at St. George Catholic Church. Interment will be at St. George Catholic Cemetery, Scotland.
Faye Marie (Pravecek) Burke was born on May 8th, 1947 to Emil and Helen (Anderson) Pravecek. She was baptized and confirmed in St. George Catholic Church in Scotland, South Dakota.
Faye spent her first eight years of education attending rural grade school in the Plattner and Geishert Districts. She graduated from Scotland High School in 1965.
Faye started employment at M-Tron Industries in Yankton at the age of 18 and she worked there for 10 years. In 1968 she married Frank Burke Jr. of Scotland and they resided on the family farm north of town. To this union two children were born, Valerie (March 24, 1971) and Brian (September 10, 1983). She spent 25 years on the family farm raising her children, being a farm wife and working full-time.
In 1975, Faye began employment with the local telephone company until 1983. In 1984, she went to work for Kronaizl Insurance and was employed there for 32 years. She retired in 2016 due to health problems after 50 years of full-time employment.
Faye persevered throughout her adult life, instilling in her children the importance of being responsible, hardworking, caring adults. She cherished Val and Brian. They were the light of her life.
In 1993, she purchased a home in Scotland and began a new way of life. She always had a project to work on or a plan for the next project. In her early years, Faye enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling and being with family and friends. Later in life she enjoyed her home, taking care of her flowers, going on trips and coffee hour with friends.
Faye passed away on April 15, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Center, achieving the age of 77 years, 11 months and 7 days. She is survived by her husband, Frank Burke; daughter, Valerie (Jake) Sturges of Scotland; son, Brian (Kathleen) Burke of Big Lake, MN and brother, Robert (Georgianne) Pravecek of Scotland.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; sister, Joan and brother-in-law, Duane Rothschadl and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
