Faye Kathleen Edwards Faerber
1939 – 2025
- Faye Kathleen Edwards Faerber passed on to the eternal world on December 6, 2025, in
Taylorsville, Utah, surrounded by children and family. Kathleen was a dear and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and woman of great faith. Her life had an immeasurable impact on her family and friends, and her loss is deeply felt by those many who experienced the touch of her love and service throughout her life.
Kathleen was born February 3, 1939 in
Joseph, Utah to Alma Solon Edwards and Lila Nielson Edwards. She spent her young years in Richfield, Utah, then moved with her family to Salt Lake City where she attended and graduated from South High School. After high school, she met and married the love of her life LeRoy George Faerber on September 24, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple.
As a mother, Kathleen devoted her time, talents, and energy to raising eight children. She filled the home with faith through daily scripture reading, family prayer, and weekly family home evening. She taught her children to work in the garden and in the home, including canning many bushels of peaches and pears. She fostered a culture of music in the home, and taught all eight of her children to play the piano. Kathleen was a devoted grandmother, and was seen at numerous games and concerts supporting her grandchildren.
Kathleen had a brilliant mind and an insatiable desire to learn. She loved, memorized, and recited poetry throughout her life, was an accomplished writer and poet herself, and often wrote birthday cards in poetic form to family members. Kathleen attended many religious institute classes and other enrichment courses, and even taught an institute class at the University of Hawaii while the family lived on Oahu. She was a founding member of a scripture study group in her neighborhood that met for over 40 years.
As a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kathleen served in many callings in her ward and stake, including stake Relief Society President for 10 years and as a faithful ministering sister. She and LeRoy served a mission in the Salt Lake City Inner City Mission. In addition, Kathleen wrote and directed several memorable road shows and Christmas programs.
One of Kathleen's great life passions was family history work. Over the years she researched and discovered numerous ancestors (many of whom were from Colonial America, England and Wales). She wrote life histories of some of those ancestors which are treasured by the family. The temple was a sacred place for her, and throughout her life she served there often, even up to the last year of her life.
Kathleen was a community leader. In addition to participating in several community action committees, she served in the Parent Teacher Association at the local level and for a time as the Chair of the Utah State P.T.A.
With her husband LeRoy, Kathleen traveled the globe, experiencing Europe (managing to successfully lead her family of eight children on several trans-Atlantic flights!), the Middle East (including the Holy Land), Greece and the Mediterranean, and perhaps her favorite place, Hawaii.
Kathleen endured decades of health challenges, including migraines and chronic pain. She showed great courage, perseverance, and even optimism throughout the years, including her very last days, providing an enduring example to her children and posterity.
The most defining quality in Kathleen's life was her discipleship to the Lord Jesus Christ. She loved Him above all else. She exerted herself in following Him with all her heart, and she bore frequent and fervent testimony of Him to her family and others. Her faith in Christ will be remembered by her posterity.
Kathleen is survived by Sister Becky Edwards; sister-in-law Sherrie Edwards; eight children and spouses: Suzanne Havens (Doug), Matthew Faerber (Betsy), Julie Cook (Q Ragle), Francine Thompson (Krey), Maria Schmidt (Van), David Faerber (Kimberly), Kristine Hyland (Lee), Alma Faerber (Lydia); 51 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy George Faerber, parents Alma and Lila Edwards, brother Marlynn Edwards, sisters Lila Diane Hanson, Mavis Ruth Heywood (Bob).
