Faye Bateman Walch

Faye Bateman Walch passed away on December 16, 2024, in American Fork, Utah. She was born on July 29, 1928, in Logan, Utah, to Edith Cundick and George Bateman. As the youngest of five children, Faye grew up during the Great Depression and witnessed the impact of World War II.
Faye's love for an active lifestyle began early. She milked cows, rode and showed horses, and played softball as a pitcher. Faye was also on the debate team. She graduated from Utah State Agricultural College with a BS degree in clinical technology in 1950. She was the first student to become nationally registered in clinical technology under a USAC- Salt Lake LDS hospital cooperative plan. Faye was the chief phlebotomist at SL LDS Hospital. She worked as a medical technologist. Later, she met the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Hyrum Walch, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They enjoyed dancing together and were married on November 6, 1953, in Logan, Utah. They had four children.
Faye and Dick loved to travel, alternating between visits with their children to Yellowstone and Laguna Beach each year. They also explored Baja Mexico, Canada, and many other destinations. They were avid sports enthusiasts, particularly enjoying golf and bowling, and participated in weekly leagues.
The couple served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Coventry, England. They went with several couples and cherished their time there. They enjoyed playing games with friends and family. After Dick's passing, Faye continued to embrace life, participating in bowling leagues, golfing weekly, and traveling with friends. She even golfed at Pebble Beach and achieved a hole-in-one at Dixie Hills Golf Course. Faye's competitive spirit shone through in her love for card games, especially playing card games with her daughter Lynne over the phone. Her competitive nature was evident in her love to win. Her Rummikub winning skills are unmatched as she continued to win her share of games. She loved Rook - a game she took very seriously.
Faye was a very creative person. She crocheted, knitted, painted, and wrote poetry. She was also a good cook and had a deep love for wildlife, especially birds. She would go bird watching with friends whenever she had the chance.
Faye was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; holding several callings that she loved. She served as the Sports Athletic Director for the Young Women, Ward Relief Society President, and Stake Young Women's President. She was President over the Brighton Girls Camp for many years. She organized numerous road shows and sports activities, forming lasting relationships with many dear friends.
Faye is survived by her four children: Laurie (Michael), Lynne (Aaron), Scott (Jana), and Sid (Deanna), as well as her ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at 10:00 AM MT at the Garden Park Ward 1150 E Yale Ave, on Saturday, December 21, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at West Jordan Cemetery 7925 South 1300 West, West Jordan, Utah.
