With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Faygene Cannady, a beacon of light in our lives, who departed this world on February 2, 2026. Born on October 17, 1929, in
South Bend, Indiana, Faygene's life was a testament to resilience, perseverance, and unyielding faith. As Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people
will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This quote perfectly encapsulates the essence of Faygene. She made everyone feel seen, heard, and loved.
Faygene's legacy is one of hard work, devotion, and service. She dedicated over 20 years of her life to the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients in her role within Environmental Services. Prior to this, she served the community with a warm smile at The Philadelphia Candy Store for over 20 years. Her commitment to her faith was equally profound. As a devoted member of the Grace AME Zion Church, Faygene served as a Deaconess, Missionary, Steward Board member, and was recognized as the oldest female member and she was a part of the popular The Golden Girls Club. Her melodic voice echoed in the church choir, uplifting the spirits of all who listened. Up unto her passing, she was a faithful bible study student.
Faygene was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin. Faygene was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Ersaline Davis Sr.; her sons, Terry Cannady, James Coley Jr., and Michael Coley, siblings, David Davis, Louise Davis, Gloria Harris, Lillian Stokes, Kathleen Lottie, and Betty Thomas; two grandchildren, Koizan Coley and Terran Coley; her son-in-law, Ted Northern, and daughter-in-law, Helen Coley and Sister-in-law Lois Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Toni Cannady, Eric Cannady, and Kathy Northern; her grandchildren, Erica Coley, Adrian Long; her great-granddaughter, Raeshun Coley, and great-great grandchildren Leila Coley, Kingston Clark, and Zayn Clark; her sisters, Carol Powell, Juanita Harris, Sandra Davis, brothers; Leon Davis Sr., Jewell Davis, Eugene Davis Jr. (Eleanor). A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
A wake for Faygene Cannady will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 5:00 pm EST at Alford's Mortuary, located at 1222 Napier Street,
South Bend, Indiana. A visitation will follow on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:00 am EST at Olivet AME Church, 719 North Notre Dame Avenue,
South Bend, Indiana. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life for Faygene at 12:00 pm EST at the same location.
Faygene's life was a tapestry of love, care, and service. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the remarkable life she lived and the countless lives she touched.
