Federico Antonio Laracuente, age 93, most recently of Bloomington, Indiana, by way of Taft, Tennessee and Cocoa, Florida, passed away surrounded by loved ones Sunday morning, February 8, 2026, at his residence. Born October 1, 1932, in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Ramón and Evangelina (Seda) Laracuente. Federico graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and retired as a First Lieutenant where he was an instructor at the Ordnance Guided Missile School. He later went on to become an Aerospace Electrical Engineer with NASA, and later NASA Subcontractors, in Huntsville, Alabama and Cape Canaveral, Florida. He enjoyed working with wood, working on automobiles, reading everything from boat building to history, camping, being outdoors, farming, studying outer space, music, his family, and nature. He was a man of strong faith and enjoyed attending Latin Masses, primarily at St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman, Alabama. He enjoyed music and was a gifted harmonica player who would lead music whenever the opportunity arose.

Federico is survived by his wife, Ava Arlene (Franklin) Laracuente, of Bloomington; his six children, Anna Maria (Donnie) Smartt, of Fayetteville, Tennessee, Raquel Maria Laracuente, of Bloomington, Marcos (Heather) Laracuente, of Palm Bay, Florida, Andrés José (Julia Weist) Laracuente, of East Durham, New York, Juan Pedro Laracuente, of Bloomington, and Rebeca Seda (Ibadullah Adam Shahrani) Laracuente, of Bloomington; twelve grandchildren: Lauren, Aaron, Caleb, Abidullah, Noah, Fatimah, Naomi, Sebastian, Amanullah, Alimullah, Khadijah; four great-grandchildren: Kohlin, Taylor, Braylen, Grace; one sister, Brunilda Franqui, of White Plains, New York and one brother, Pedro (Brunilda) Laracuente, of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia (Steadman) Laracuente, one son, Federico Antonio Laracuente, Jr. and fifteen siblings.

A Graveside Celebration of Life will be held Monday, February 16, 2026 at noon, at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Brevard Alzheimer's Foundation, the Hoosier Hills Food Bank, or to a charity of your choice.
