Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perry Funeral Home - Newark from Apr. 26 to May 3, 2025.
Pastor Felicia Antoinette Evans was born on September 15, 1960, to the Late Reverend Haywood Evans, Sr. and Evangelist Zola McNair-Evans-Howell in
Newark, New Jersey. Felicia accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by her father Reverend Haywood Evans, Sr. who was also the founder of Greater Level Hill Baptist Church in
Newark, New Jersey. Felicia was a proud graduate of West Side High School; Class of 1978. In 1984 she continued her academic journey at William Patterson College/University earning a degree in Social Work. With a consistent hunger and thirst for more knowledge in 2013 Felicia received her master's degree of Arts in Christian Studies and in 2014 she became a Chaplain anointed and appointed by God. She was always thriving for more and in 2018 she received her Doctorate Degree in Arts. Felicia was a cherished member of the Illustrious William Patterson University Gospel Choir under the direction of Professor Lloyd Reese. She was known for her various talents. She was an anointed songstress that would open her mouth and sing, and it was as though the heavens opened and the angels had joined in with her. Felicia was introduced to her longtime friend and brother, Reverend Tyrone Williams. He invited Felicia to be a part of the show "MAMA I WANT TO SING" starring Shirley Caesar, Stephanie Mills, and Regina Bell. This was just one of the highlights of Felicia's music journey. She starred in the play "The Devil Used My Child" with the Mattie Moultrie, Wilson Productions and "Black Moses" with the Rose of Sharon Theatrical Production Company.
Felicia also starred in a Solo Concert in Baltimore, Maryland where she performed signature songs, The High Place, I Won't Complain, Going Up Yonder. In 2005 Felicia also had her own Cable Television Show called "Madam Butterfly". Singing was a true testament to her deep love for the word of God and ministering to the spirit of all who heard her and helping them to overcome life's challenges. As a devoted songstress and a vessel that was truly used by God, she was able to touch so many lives, leaving an impact everywhere shed go. Felicia had an insatiable zest for life and would always greet you with a smile that was so infectious, you couldn't help but smile back. She loved to travel, spending time with family and friends and was known for her style and grace. She was also known as the "Fashionista" She was the Lady in Red, catching and demanding the attention of everyone in the room. Her manicure and Pedicure were always right on point adding that extra flair to her impeccable style. Felicia loved her goddaughter Nya and spent as much time together as they could. Nya, who was like the daughter she never had. They would go shopping together without Dawn (Nya's mother) much to Dawn's disappointment but that didn't stop Felicia from leaving Dawn behind and spending time with Nya. Felicia and Nya would talk for hours about anything and everything. Felicia and Dawn had a friendship and sisterhood that was unmatchable and unforgettable.
Felicia was different, uniquely designed to be herself. She never failed to be herself. She didn't care who was around her and always encouraged others to do the same. She was a Preacher and a teacher. She started a sister's fellowship with women who shared and learn from each other. She believed in people making the world go around by their actions and deeds. She was a true friend with an unwavering faith who served in multiple capacities of the church. The most recent one was Pastor, and she would later join St. Paul Freewill Baptist under the leadership of Bishop Rawls. Felicia's light will continue to shine through the many lives she touched. She loved her family and friends very much. She departed this life leaving so many shattered and broken hearts as they trust in God for the strength needed for the days ahead.
"Goodbyes are not forever, neither is it the end; it simply means we'll miss you until we meet again."
