Fermin Claudio Cobian, known affectionately as Claudio, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2023, in Salisbury, MD. Born on September 15, 1942, in Santiago, Chile, he immigrated to the United States and brought along his zest for life, unmatched kindness, and boundless love to all who knew him.
Known for his generosity, Claudio always sought to extend a helpful hand to those around him. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. His well-mannered demeanor, dapper dressing style, and refined spoken word never failed to leave a lasting impression. Claudio had an infectious passion for life, reflected in his broad range of interests. From traveling and embracing new cultures to relaxing and watching soccer, he found joy in digging beneath the surface to truly appreciate the wonders the world had to offer.
Claudio's enthusiastic love of chemistry and engineering stayed with him throughout his life, with an ever-growing interest in figuring out how things worked. A thirst for knowledge and a focus on education were traits Claudio emphasized heavily to his children. Additionally, Claudio had a deep appreciation for nature and reveled in the rejuvenation of life each spring. He could always be found taking in the view from his patio and appreciating the wonders of life all around him.
Claudio was above all else a dedicated family man. His love for his children was only surpassed when he became a grandfather, a role that brought him immense joy. Claudio is survived by his daughters Dorothy Cobian and her fiancé Jason McConnell; Martha Lee Cobian and her husband Kaleb Jones; son Claudio "Dio" Cobian and his wife Laura Cobian; grandchildren Harper Skye Jones, Mason Cobian Jones, and Brady Nash McConnell; brother Alfredo Cobian; and sisters Kelly Cobian and Evelyn Maruri. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Martha Messick Cobian, his parents, Fermin Rodriguez Cobian and Carmen Fuentes Cobian, and his sister Hilda Cobian and brother-in-law Andres Leon.
In addition to his pride as a native Chilean, Claudio's heart always belonged to the US. Affectionately stating he was from Texas, where his children were all born, when asked where he was from. He embodied the soul of a true patriot, always appreciative of the opportunities his geographically diverse life provided to him. Claudio's enduring legacy of love, kindness, and pride in his family will forever be his gift to those fortunate enough to be part of his journey.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, October 9, 2023, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Mogan's Oyster House, located at 100 E Main St Suite 111, Salisbury MD 21801.
