Fern Lowry Church

Fern Lowry Church, 82, of Mobile passed away on January 22, 2025.

Fern was born on September 18, 1942 to Charles Marion Lowry and Flossie Thelma McKnight in Redwood, Mississippi. After high school, Fern earned her Bachelor's degree in Literature from Humboldt State University. Fern worked as an Aerospace Assembly Planner at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing until her retirement.

Fern was an avid world traveler who loved reading and writing. Fern was an artist who loved interior design, drawing, and song writing. Fern loved to host parties for her friends and family. She loved learning about the natural world, loved to sing hymns and read poetry. Above all this, Fern loved her family and Jesus.

Fern is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Marion Lowry and Flossie Thelma McKnight Lowry; brother, Fielder Lowry and sister Fairy Lowry Grey.

Fern leaves behind her beloved husband, Alfonso Zavala; daughters, Erika Fern Risling, Robin Risling De Jong, Lanie Renee Risling; stepson, Greg Zavala; grandchildren, Collin Larker, Toran Larker, Devin Igasan, Sabrina De Jong, Sabre De Jong, Savannah Risling, Dalton Hughes, Nathan Zavala and Blake Zavala; great granddaughter, Laylah Meas; sisters, Florence Giles and Faye Marshall.

Fern's family will honor her memory with a funeral service on Wednesday January 29 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with visitation beginning one hour prior.
