Fern Evans Obituary

Fern Evans

1937 - 2024

- Fern Rindlisbacher Evans, 86, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife to her beloved companion, Leigh Robbins Evans, peacefully returned to her heavenly home on January 29, 2024.

Mom was the most cheerful giver and always looked for ways to serve those around her. Her bright smile and warm hugs brought light to so many. Her effortless giving of love was a gift to all who were lucky enough to be with her.

She was born, December 9, 1937, to Leroy Alma and Isabell Nielsen Rindlisbacher in Millville, UT. Even being raised in a small one bedroom house, she found fun and beauty everywhere.

While living in Salt Lake with her sister Ruth, she met her sweetheart while working together at his family's restaurant, Keeley's. They married not long after on December 31, 1956, and started their miraculous family of fourteen children. Her family has always been her pride, joy, and her life's greatest work.

Mom loved children, her own, her grandchildren and so many others. Besides her own children she had many honorary children among friends and neighbors who would come to her home. She made her home a warm, comfortable, safe place where all were welcome.

Mom was a strong example of a follower of Jesus Christ. Sharing love and light was so natural for her. She always had an elderly neighbor to visit, a meal to deliver, or a baby to hold for a new mother. Mom served in many positions and callings over the years in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her favorite being the best mission companion to her beloved husband, Leigh, in the Bristol England Mission and later the London South Mission. For years prior, she had taught, encouraged and supported her own 14 missionaries and she was always so proud of their missionary service.

She is survived by her loving husband, Leigh, and her children : Gary (Cathryn), Linda (Mark) Walton, Clark, Mark (Suzanne), Stephen (Rebecca), Bruce (Terri), Sally (Blake) Despain, John, Daniel (Alexis), Cindy (Darin) Thomsen, Brenda Finlinson, Matthew (Rochelle), Angela, and Holly, along with 42 grandchildren and soon to be 34 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and all 10 of her much loved siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Salt Lake Big Cottonwood 4th Ward Building, 5565 South Neighbor Lane Holladay, Utah. Friends and family will be received prior to the funeral, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., in the same building. The interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Fern and her sister Ruth were my " favorite aunts ", when they were living in Millville during their young teen years, they were very sweet to me and my twin sisters, playing with us and taking us places. Fern and Ruth liked to talk in Pig
Latin, so, no one would know, [email protected] what they were saying. In later years I could understand it, which took them by surprise. Lots of fond memories, she will be missed greatly.

Sister Evans always had the biggest smile when I would go to their house! Her home was warm and inviting and filled with family and friends all the time! I loved that about her! Always welcoming and loving! She will be missed, but I know that I will see that beautiful smile again! Thank you for a beautiful tribute to your Mother! Lisa Lefler Olsen
