Otis Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Townsend Brothers Funeral Home - Dublin on Feb. 9, 2026.
Otis Derl Evans, age 91, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, in Toomsboro, Georgia. Born on August 1, 1934, in Rentz, Georgia, he lived a full and meaningful life, marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a steadfast work ethic.

The son of the late William Otis Evans and Gladys Simmons Kyzer, Derl grew up understanding the value of hard work and the importance of community. His youth in the rolling landscapes of Georgia instilled in him a lifelong love for his home state. After serving honorably in the United States Army, Derl translated the discipline and skills he acquired into a successful career as a maintenance foreman for the St. Johns River Power Park in Jacksonville, Florida.

Derl was a man of faith, actively involved in his church, Oakdale Baptist, where he formed deep and lasting friendships. His love for the Georgia Bulldogs was more than a pastime; it was a passion he shared with everyone around him. Win or lose, Derl's enthusiasm for his team was infectious, and his loyalty never wavered.

His family was the cornerstone of his life. Derl was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Iva Dukes Evans, his grandson, Dustin Williams, and his parents. He is survived by his loving children, Debbie (Billy) Fullard, Gary Evans, and Diane Lightfoot. Derl's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, DeRon Johnson and April Gibbons, as well as several adoring great-grandchildren. Each of them will carry forward his spirit of resilience, kindness, and joy.

No formal services for Mr. Evans will be held.
