She was pre-deceased by her daughter, Kathryn J. (Goodreau) Rose in 2018, son-in-law Donald G. Rose in 2008 and siblings: Virginia (Ginny), Joan, Joyce, and Walter (Wally).
Ferne was born in Dunbar, PA on September 11, 1932, to Lillian and Jerome Copley.
She is survived by four sons: Thomas (Lou Ann) Goodreau of Sinking Springs, PA, Kevin (Claudia) Goodreau of Albuquerque, NM, Dr. Scott (Michelle) Goodreau of Oakdale, CA, and Glenn (Tonya) Goodreau of Falls Church, VA. Grandchildren Melissa (Jason) Rose-Hunt, Kristina (Gregg) Bethka, Brian Rose, Nicole (Michael) Rogers, Natalie (Andrew) Hisey, Michelle (Drew) Price, Sarah (James) Piazza, Griffin (Keighty) Goodreau, Steven (Mariana) Goodreau, Paul Goodreau, Mia Goodreau, and ten beautiful great grandchildren: Madison, Drew, Avery, Eli, Karmela, Idalynn, Briggs, Paige, Makena and Gibson.
After moving from Wellsboro, PA, Ferne raised her five children in Painted Post, NY while working in various career fields, including becoming a top-ranking Mary Kay Cosmetics consultant. She retired from Corning, Incorporated as an employee of Pressware.
Ferne can best be described as formidable. She was tenacious and lived her life with courage and strength, no matter the obstacles that fell in her path. She was full of hard-earned words of life wisdom and funny quips (too many to quote) that her family called Ferne-isms. She loved her family deeply and expressed it in many ways, especially through her storytelling, legendary cooking, and baking. Her home was a beautiful, welcoming place where everyone could enjoy a cozy visit and admire her amazing plants and landscaping talents. She had a green thumb that was unmatched! She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and loved to share recipes and plan outings in the area with her friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility and Schuyler Hospital for their compassionate care since 2019.
There will be no formal memorial services. A celebration of life will be held on a future date.
