Ferol Riggs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home on Dec. 15, 2025.
On Monday, December 15, 2025 the Heaven's opened their gates where Jesus took the hands of a precious angel leading her through the Pearly Gates to her mansion in the sky. Ferol Marie (Long) Riggs, 97, lifelong area resident, passed away at the Ochiltree General Hospital in Perryton, Texas.

Born on January 21, 1928 at the XI Ranch north of Forgan, Oklahoma in Beaver County. She was the daughter of Lewis Worlings and Sylvia Marie (Gowens) Long.

Ferol began school in the fall of 1933 at White Hall later taking her to various other schools such as Cosmos, Center School, (which was located east of Eva) and Independence School. She attended all four years of high school at Keyes, Oklahoma, graduating in 1945. From there, Ferol embarked on a trek with two years of college at Panhandle A&M at Goodwell, Oklahoma.

Ferol and James S. "Mike" Riggs of Sallisaw, Oklahoma were united in marriage on December 20, 1947 in Clayton, New Mexico. To this union were born three girls: Wilma Lee, Rose Alee, and Wanda Lou, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A devoted Christian, Ferol was baptized May 1954 at the Keyes Pentecostal Holiness Church, later transferring her membership in 1972 to Guymon Pentecostal Holiness Church. Being an active and dedicated Christian, Ferol held many positions for several years teaching the gospel. Some of which include Sunday school teacher for 43 years; served on the local church board at Keyes and Guymon for 20 years. Ferol also held the position as local women's ministries director for 30 years; Great Plains Conference women's director for 4 years; Great Plains Women's Conference Board member for 4 years; local C.E.M. Director for 12 years; Tri-County school food service president for 4 years and past president of the women's High Plains Conference. Ferol worked as food supervisor at Yarbrough and Guymon schools for 23 years. Other positions included dedicated housewife and owner and operator of the Sweet Shop and Pastry Shop for five years.

Ferol is well known for her beautiful and tasty baked and decorated cakes, where she served the public for 33 years, as well being famous for her homemade chicken and noodles. Some of Ferol's other activities would include being a church representative for Loaves and Fishes for 12 years; volunteering on the Hospital Auxiliary; the Christmas Shoe Box program and passionately sponsoring a young man in Africa for several years.

Ferol lived through the horrible 'Dirty 30's' as well as the infamous blizzard of 1957. She was a great woman that never stopped being a dedicated mother. She still cared about her girls to the end.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Sylvia Long; her loving husband, Mike Riggs on January 14, 2003; one sister, Betty Aaron on July 24, 2011 and son-in-law, Jim Oswald June 23, 2023.

Survivors include her three daughters: Wilma and husband, Ed Nelson of Guymon, Rose Marsh of Tuttle, Oklahoma, and Wanda Oswald of the Yarbrough Community; one sister, Billie Grabeal and husband, Rex of Yukon, Oklahoma. Survivors also include five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Visitation will be Friday evening, December 19th between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, December 20th at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Van Heckle and Jimmy Wiggin officiating. Ferol was a sweet lady. I got to know her while working at the Sweet Shop. Ferol made my wedding cake and it was awesome and was beautifully made. Wilma and Billie, my prayers and thoughts are with you. May you be comforted in knowing that Ferol (your mom and sister) had a life well lived.
