Filomena "Mena" Romano

Filomena (Mena) Romano passed away on April 7, 2024 at Good Shepherd Hospice Center after a long battle with cancer. Wife of Nicholas, mother to Dina Girola (Paul) and the late Nicholas Jr.

Mena was born in the Bronx to Gerardo and Paolina DeSanctis. She was one of 3 children. Sister to the late Frank (Anna) and sister to the late Marianna. Mena was an aunt and great aunt to many nieces & nephews (who she adored), had celebrated her 80th birthday in October and her 60th wedding anniversary in November. She was a Professor Emeritus of Art at Nassau Community College and loved to spend time in her studio. Before teaching Sculpture, Ceramics, Design and Drawing at NCC, she was a professor of art at several Long Island colleges. "Teaching gives me a reason for being alive, helping form young minds"

Besides Mena's love of the Arts and teaching, she loved to travel with her family, cook for family & friends, try new restaurants and getting her hands dirty in her fabulous garden.
