Finis H. Black passed away on August 19, 2024, at his home in Burns, TN and surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Clarksville, TN to Finis H. Black and Annie Carver Black on May 20, 1938, the youngest of 11 children.
Finis graduated from Bellevue High School where he was a basketball and track and field star.
After graduating from high school, he went on to attend Lipscomb College for 1 year and held the track and field hurdle record for 10 years, then joined the Army Reserves and was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis and honorably discharged.
After the reserves, he became an automobile mechanic and worked for Sears and Roebuck for 40 years while raising 3 children.
Finis was preceded in death by his parents and 9 of his 10 siblings.
He is survived by his brother Rodney "Todd" Black and 3 children: Jeff Black (Chelley), D'Leigh Mezzatesta and Heather Royse. He is also survived by Abbey Royse, his granddaughter, best pal and light of his life, as well as 4 other grandchildren: Meredith Adcock (Jabob), Alex Black (Cassie), Maddie and Cooper Black, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Finis was a quiet, kind, gentle, sincere, sweet man who loved, protected, worked hard for his family and showed his love and care by giving all he could to those around him.
He will be missed so much, and life will never be the same without him.
