Flo Gerldene Sloan Easley, a dynamic and free-spirited soul, joined Jesus in eternal rest on October 21, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on September 15, 1929, in Drakes Creek, Arkansas, Flo was a captivating combination of grit and glitter.
As a homemaker on the family farm, Flo had a quiet strength. She cared for farm animals and a revolving pack of children with resolve. The efficiency with which she prepared her farm-to-table chicken dinners was legendary and they were offered to anyone who wandered by her home at mealtime. She gardened. She canned. She quilted.
For all her practicality, Flo led a beautifully contrasting life. Underneath the weight of responsibility, her soul sparkled with the flair of a Gabor sister. She loved beautiful things. She decorated with collectible bells, dolls, and other knick-knacks. She had a beautiful 12-inch version of Dolly Parton that could occasionally be held but never played with. She loved flowers and rhinestones and Larry Hagman because he was a "fine-looking young man."
Christmas at Flo's was special. Every year, she put up a beautiful tree full of lights and lots of tinsel and sparkly ornaments that would have been right at home in a Macy's store window. She always had a stocking for each grandkid, and Gene Autry and Elvis continuously emanated from the record player.
Flo did eventually leave the farm to work at Tyson. She tried to retire at least three times before they finally let her. After her retirement, her quilting became prolific. She often gifted them to friends and family. She blossomed into a social butterfly. She attended multiple church services and events. She enjoyed her beautiful things. She mingled at the senior center. She attended the dances in Elkins. She lived fully.
How do you sum up 96 years of life in such a small number of words? Flo loved Jesus, quilts, fun, her family, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. When you look up at the night sky, know that the brightest most sparkly star is hers.
Flo was predeceased by her first husband, Virl Sloan; her second husband, Herman Easley; her daughter, Debra Ann Sloan; her parents, Melvin William and Gladys Mary Lawson; her sisters, Ida Lou Pack and Ceola Meyers; and her brother, Wilbert Lawson.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Lee Sloan (Sandra McCoy Sloan) of Huntsville; her daughter, Dena Sloan Bradley (Dewain Bradley) of Springdale; five grandchildren, Teresa Escalante, Tracy Bennett, Christopher Loghry, Sarah Jackson, and Rachel Adams; five great-grandchildren, Gabby Bennett, Andrew and Joseph Jackson, and Kenadi and Kacelyn Loghry.
