Flora Whitmire Hunt passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Mendenhall, Mississippi, at the age of 97. She was laid to rest in Mount Zion Presbyterian Cemetery in McCool, Mississippi, in a private ceremony surrounded by her loving family.
Flora was born on November 12, 1928, in Choctaw County, Mississippi, to Dewitt Clyde Whitmire and Addie McKinley Whitmire. She worked for many years for the State of Mississippi Department of Education and Child Nutrition as a programs auditor and accountant until her retirement in 1991. A woman of faith, she was most recently a member of Kennedy Springs Baptist Church in Magee, Mississippi, and in her spare time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, and cooking.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hester Hunt; son, Lester Hunt; granddaughter, Laura Hunt; brother, Ivy Whitmire; and her parents.
Survivors include her son, Michael Hunt (Jeanne); grandchildren, Matthew Hunt (Virginia) and Meredith Floyd (Ray); great grandchildren, Anna King (Levi), Emma Floyd, Maggie Floyd, Audrey Floyd, Garrett Hunt, and Hayes Hunt; and one great-great grandchild, Matthew King.
