Flora Jett Saunders

Flora Mae Jett Saunders, 86 of Reedville, VA, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. Saunders, Jr., her parents, Bert and Bea Jett, and her brother, Fletcher "Sonny" Jett.
Flora Mae was a loving and devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved road trips with family, always had a smile on her face and a great sense of humor. Flora Mae was born on August 26, 1939, and grew up on Buzzards Point in Reedville. She married her husband, H.C., on October 31, 1959. When he was drafted into the Army, she worked as a secretary at Reynolds Metals in Richmond. She was a school bus driver for Northumberland County Schools for over 25 years and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Reedville.
Flora Mae is survived by her children, Sharon Saunders Lewis and Christopher Clay Saunders; five grandchildren, Maegan Lewis Poad (Billy), Brennon, Collin, Carson and Layton Saunders; and her great-granddaughter Allison Mae Poad. She is also survived by her sister Polly Hinton; two nieces Kim Onder (Jeff), Stacey Kitchen (Stephan) and her nephew Robb Hinton (Jennifer); her brother-in-law Billy Saunders (Diane) and several of her husband's nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Bethany United Methodist Church in Reedville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private and at a later date. A reception will be held after the service in the church social hall.
