Florence Finer

Florence Finer, 95, of Cathedral City, died August 20, 2025, in Palm Springs.

She was born January 28, 1930 to Morris and Laura Braunstein Markowitz in Brooklyn, NY. She married

the late Lawrence (Larry) Finer in 1950 in Brooklyn and relocated to California in 1952.

She was employed for many years by the State of California, first as head of human resources for the

Youth Advisory Authority, and later with the Water Resources Board.

She is survived by her sons Eliezer (Maya), Israel; Mitchell (Chris), Longmount, CO; daughter-in-law Linda

Popky, Redwood City; grandchildren Raviv (Aviona), Oshreet (Dror), and Adiella, Israel; Ilana, Redwood

City; great-grandchildren Aryeh, Benaya, Heleni, and Adaya, Israel; a brother, Irwin Markowitz,

Brooklyn, NY; brother-in-law William (Linda) Finer, Arkansas; sister-in-law Marlene Finer, Los Angeles; as

well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is pre-deceased by her brother Victor Markowitz, sister

Helen Bodle, and sister-in-law Anita Finer.

Until February, she resided independently in her home in Cathedral City, where she celebrated her 95 th

birthday with her extended family. She was a supporter of Israel and Jewish causes. Special thanks to

Rabbi Kreiman and Bikur Cholim Chabad Palm Springs for ongoing support, and to her caregiver Pat for

all her help.

Graveside services will be held Monday, August 25 at 12:30 p.m. at Desert Memorial Park, Cathedral

City.
