Florence Garyet Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fairmount Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematory on Dec. 23, 2025.
Florence Dikeou Garyet, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, in Boulder, Colorado. Her 94 years on earth were devoted to family, filled with tradition, and punctuated by travel to Hawaii, Greece, and many of the fifty states. She held a deep respect for the stories and values passed down through generations and took great care to preserve them and share them with those she loved.
Florence, the daughter of Greek immigrants, was born on June 19, 1931, in North Platte, Nebraska. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to Denver, Colorado, which remained her home throughout her life.
In 1952, she married Chris Garyet, the love of her life. They met at a church dance that Chris nearly missed due to a head cold. In the final entry of her honeymoon diary, she wrote the following: "Thus our two-week honeymoon ended. I said our two-week honeymoon, because we expect to have another one lasting a lifetime." They did.
Together, Florence and Chris raised three sons, whom they treasured: Dean (Karen), Terry (Karen) and Michael (Laura). In addition to working at the National Jewish Hospital, she was enthusiastically involved in the Denver Greek Orthodox community. From 1992 to 1994, she served as President of the Philoptochos Society, the charitable organization of the Assumption of the Theotokos Metropolis Cathedral of Denver.
Florence had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious giggle. She was known to cut out and save funny comics and loved movies, plays, and television. She adored feeding people and could make a first-rate pan of baklava. In addition to her impeccable style and closet filled with beautiful dresses, she was admired for her sharp mind and remarkable memory. These gifts made her a natural at crosswords and other puzzles and also a treasured keeper of family history, with an extraordinary knowledge of every family connection.
Family was the light of Florence's life, and her devotion was deeply felt by all who knew her – especially those who called her Yiayia: Christopher, Haley (Michael), Natalie, and Chad (Brittane). She was delighted by her great-grandchildren, Ashni, Ander, Navy "Lo", and Zelda, all of whom she joyfully spoiled. She is also survived by several cherished nieces and nephews, and several godchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Helen Dikeou; her sisters Pauline (Sam) Booras and Esther Pantels; her brother James (JoAnn) Dikeou; and her beloved husband, Chris.
Services will be held at the Assumption of the Theotokos Metropolis Cathedral, Denver, Colorado, on Tuesday, December 30, beginning with a Trisagion and funeral at 10:00, followed by burial at Fairmount Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence's name to the Assumption Cathedral Scholarship Fund, by contacting the Assumption Cathedral at 303-388-9314, or sending donation to :
